Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akim North Andy Appiah Kubi has disclosed that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will be removed from office latest by December 31, 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n He says the 80 \u2018Anti-Ofori-Atta\u2019 MPs were made to believe at a meeting with President Akufo-Addo that the Finance Minister will leave his duty at the end of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n Speaking to Accra-based 3FM, Mr Appiah Kubi says Mr Ofori-Atta will be concluding phase one of the negotiation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by next week following which the budget preparations will commence<\/span><\/p>\n “Personally, I understood the president to be saying that when the matters come to close he would do our bidding. The whole IMF programme will end in April but the first phase, which is necessary for our budgetary preparations, will end next week.<\/span><\/p>\n “The understanding is that the end of the first phase and the conclusion of appropriation, which is December, our understanding is that at that place, he will effective our request and indeed give and take, the maximum he can run up to is in December before Christmas”<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0“So, we condition our minds that all things being equal, we expect that to happen latest 31st December 2022, ” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n Background<\/strong><\/p>\n On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, MPs from the majority side of Parliament held a press conference to demand the removal of Ken Ofori-Atta and Dr Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance.<\/span><\/p>\n The MPs, numbering 80 and led by Andy Appiah-Kubi, MP for Asante Akyem North, say they are convinced removing the two will help restore economic order.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe are by this medium communicating our strong desire that the President changes the Finance Minister and the Minister of state at the finance ministry without further delay in order to restore hope to the Finance sector and reverse the downward trend in the growth of our economy.
