Number two, he\u2019s a wounded soldier, whether we like it or not and we want to send him into battle? I think that is unfair to him,\u201d she said in an interview on <strong>Joy FM<\/strong>\u2019s <strong>Super Morning Show <\/strong>on Wednesday, October 26.<\/p>\n<p>In her view, it would be more appropriate and helpful for the President to relieve Mr. Ofori-Atta of his post and appoint a \u201cstrong\u201d and \u201ccapable\u201d person to take over the management of the country\u2019s finances.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Qaurtey urged President Akufo-Addo to consider some of the recommendations proposed by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"883\" height=\"591\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Ken-Ofori-Atta-1.png\" alt=\"Ofori-Atta is a wounded soldier, incapable to deliver results \u2013 Mona Quartey\" class=\"wp-image-10031864762 lazy\"  data- title=\"Ofori-Atta is a wounded soldier, incapable to deliver results \u2013 Mona Quartey\"\/><figcaption>Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cOpposition is a very important part of governance in this democracy that we are practicing and opposition has a stake in the game. We don\u2019t intend to come back into power in a messed up nation.<\/p>\n<p>The President must send a soldier who is looking for solutions, who is strong, who is capable to go out there and get us a good IMF programme and who will also start to do the work of cleaning up in-house, so that we send the right signals to both the international finance markets and to our domestic market,\u201d she argued.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What happened?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, October 25, over 80 New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislators demanded the\u00a0<strong>immediate sacking<\/strong>\u00a0of the Finance Minister.<\/p>\n<p>They threatened to\u00a0<strong>boycott the reading of the 2023 budget<\/strong>\u00a0if President Akufo-Addo turns a deaf ear to their request.<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"jFWQ9N9cZKc\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"80 Majority MPs want Finance Minister Sacked - News Desk with Mapitso Sebidi on JoyNews\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jFWQ9N9cZKc?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe have made our great concern known to the President through the parliamentary leadership and the leadership of the party without any positive response. We are, by this medium, communicating our strong desire that the President changes the Minister of Finance and the Minister of State in the Finance Ministry [Charles Adu Boahen] without any further delays.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At a press conference delivered by the Asante Akyem North MP, Andy Appiah-Kubi, the Majority MPs expressed displeasure with the management of the economy under Mr. Ofori-Atta.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Timing and procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has said the calls for President Akufo-Addo to relieve his Finance Minister of his post may be premature under the current circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the matter is about procedure and timing,\u201d he said in an interview <strong>Joy FM\u2019s Super Morning Show <\/strong>on Wednesday, October 26.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"300\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" allow=\"autoplay\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/1370368417&#038;color=%23ff5500&#038;auto_play=false&#038;hide_related=false&#038;show_comments=true&#038;show_user=true&#038;show_reposts=false&#038;show_teaser=true&#038;visual=true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Responding to a question on his personal position on the demands for Mr. Ofori-Atta to be sacked, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated that his major concern has been the rippling effects that would ensue from the Minister\u2019s resignation at \u201cthis material moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey invited me. My concern was the timing and the effect of any such move at this material moment when we are about concluding our negotiation with the IMF. Is it the appropriate and propitious time to do what they are calling for?
