{"id":1235409,"date":"2022-10-26T21:46:26","date_gmt":"2022-10-26T21:46:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/26\/keep-your-investment-with-government-its-the-safest-prof-quartey\/"},"modified":"2022-10-26T21:46:26","modified_gmt":"2022-10-26T21:46:26","slug":"keep-your-investment-with-government-its-the-safest-prof-quartey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/26\/keep-your-investment-with-government-its-the-safest-prof-quartey\/","title":{"rendered":"Keep your investment with Government, it\u2019s the safest &#8211; Prof Quartey\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>By Francis Ntow\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Accra, Oct 26, GNA \u2013 Professor Peter Quartey, the Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), has encouraged Ghanaians and investors to continue to keep their investments in Government securities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Government securities, including Treasury Bills and Bonds, are debt issuances used to fund daily operations and projects of government, which guarantee the full repayment of invested principal at the maturity date and interests.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prof Quartey\u2019s advice comes amid speculations and fears in the economy as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) conducts a Debt Sustainability Analysis of Ghana for the Fund\u2019s support programme.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The loan facility is to support the Government\u2019s homegrown economic programme, which is aimed at ensuring macroeconomic stability and resilience to lessen hardship in the country.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of the launch of the 31st edition of the State of Ghana Economy Report, Prof Quartey said there was no need for investors to withdraw from any government securities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The report looked at developments in the economy, including fiscal development, financial and monetary sector, international trade and payments, agricultural sector, industrial sector, services and an optional section on inequalities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prof Quartey assured investors that their funds were safe with the Government amid the ongoing hardship and said that: \u201cDespite the rise in interest rates, we\u2019re recording a negative real return.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, if you have an investment in treasury bills or bonds, I\u2019m not saying you should go and withdraw because holding government security is one of the safest investments,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Development Economist emphasised that every investment had its own risk, but it was safer to keep investments safely in government securities despite the negative real interest rate now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernments come and go, but governance is a continuity; so, your money is safe with the government. Even when we had the financial sector clean-up, the majority had their money.
