{"id":1235362,"date":"2022-10-26T17:25:55","date_gmt":"2022-10-26T17:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/26\/majority-caucus-in-parliament-to-challenge-bagbins-ruling-on-adwoa-safo\/"},"modified":"2022-10-26T17:25:55","modified_gmt":"2022-10-26T17:25:55","slug":"majority-caucus-in-parliament-to-challenge-bagbins-ruling-on-adwoa-safo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/26\/majority-caucus-in-parliament-to-challenge-bagbins-ruling-on-adwoa-safo\/","title":{"rendered":"Majority Caucus in Parliament to challenge Bagbin\u2019s ruling on Adwoa Safo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Osei-Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu-1024x474.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"article-text\">\n<p>The Majority Caucus in Parliament is poised to challenge Speaker Bagbin\u2019s ruling on the report of the Privileges Committee on absenteeism in Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>The Privileges Committee report had earlier maintained that the seat for Dome Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo be declared vacant for her absence in the House.<\/p>\n<p>But Alban Bagbin on Wednesday ruled that the decision by the Privileges Committee is not final.<\/p>\n<p>He was of the view that the report of the Committee must be placed before the whole House for a decision to be made.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is for the House that will go through it because the mandate given to an MP, representation is so crucial that it cannot be left to the subjective view of any person or group of people but the whole house,\u201d Speaker Bagbin said on the floor on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-myjoyonline-com wp-block-embed-myjoyonline-com\"\/>\n<p>However, Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu appears to be unhappy with Bagbin\u2019s ruling.<\/p>\n<p>The Suame MP described the ruling as \u201cunfortunate\u201d and threatened that his side will challenge the Speaker\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI totally disagree with the ruling. It doesn\u2019t sit with the constitution and I must express my discomfort with this unfortunate ruling that has been made because it is very inconsistent. We will come back with a substantive motion to challenge the ruling\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu believes the Speaker has misinterpreted the law of the land.<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"eDGaG0xUG9U\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Majority Leader clashes with Speaker over decision to subject Adwoa Safo\u2019s fate to vote\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eDGaG0xUG9U?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>According to him, the ruling flouts Article 97 of the law which he quoted as justification for the Speaker\u2019s determination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Constitution says that the determination should be made by the Committee.
