Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is \u201c43% Nigerian\u201d.<\/p>\n
The 41-year-old duchess looked into her family history \u201ca couple of years ago\u201d and Meghan discovered that she has strong links to the West African country.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Nigerian-American star Ziwe on her \u201cArchetypes\u201d podcast, Meghan said: \u201cI just had my genealogy done a couple of years ago, I\u2019m 43% Nigerian.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ziwe asked Meghan if she knew anything more specific about her background.<\/p>\n
Ziwe said: \u201cAre you serious? This is huge. Igbo, Yoruba, do we know?\u201d<\/p>\n
The duchess, who has Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 16 months, with Prince Harry, said: \u201cI\u2019m going to start to dig deeper into all of this because anyone that I\u2019ve told, especially Nigerian women, are just like, \u2018What?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Meghan has revealed that the she only \u201cstarted to understand what it was like to be treated like a black woman\u201d when she began dating Harry.<\/p>\n
The duchess made the confession during a podcast with music star Mariah Carey, who is also of mixed race.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cI had read this article about Halle Berry, and they were asking her how she felt being treated as a mixed-race woman in the world. And her response was her saying, \u2018Well, your experience through the world is how people view you.\u2019 So she said because she was darker in colour, she was being treated as a black woman, not as a mixed woman.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I think for us, it\u2019s very different because we\u2019re light-skinned. You\u2019re not treated as a black woman. You\u2019re not treated as a white woman. You sort of fit in between.<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, if there\u2019s any time in my life that it\u2019s been more focused on my race, it\u2019s only once I started dating my husband. Then I started to understand what it was like to be treated like a black woman. Because up until then, I had been treated like a mixed woman. And things really shifted.\u201d<\/p>\n
