{"id":1234362,"date":"2022-10-25T19:31:12","date_gmt":"2022-10-25T19:31:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/25\/minority-files-motion-for-vote-of-censure-against-finance-minister\/"},"modified":"2022-10-25T19:31:12","modified_gmt":"2022-10-25T19:31:12","slug":"minority-files-motion-for-vote-of-censure-against-finance-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/25\/minority-files-motion-for-vote-of-censure-against-finance-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Minority files motion for vote of censure against Finance Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>All the Members of Parliament on the Minority side are signatories to a motion for a vote of censure on Ken Ofori-Atta, the Finance Minister, filed on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The Minority cites the overall mismanagement of the economy and ethical concerns, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The motion was filed a day before Parliament resumed from recess.<\/p>\n<p>Parliament has been on recess for the past three months, as the economic crisis intensified amid Ghana\u2019s pursuit of an International Monetary Fund (IMF) deal.<\/p>\n<p>The grounds the Minority cites for the vote of censure are the:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Despicable conflict of Interest ensuring that he directly benefits from Ghana\u2019s economic woes as his companies receive commissions and other unethical contractual advantages, particularly from Ghana\u2019s debt overhang.<\/li>\n<li>Unconstitutional withdrawals from the Consolidated Fund in blatant contravention of Article 178 of the 1992 Constitution, supposedly for the construction of the President\u2019s Cathedral:<\/li>\n<li>Illegal payment of oil revenues into offshore accounts, in flagrant violation of Article 176 of the 1992 Constitution:<\/li>\n<li>Deliberate and dishonest misreporting of economic data to Parliament 5. Fiscal recklessness leading to the crash of the Ghana Cedi which is currently the worst-performing currency in the world:<\/li>\n<li>Alarming incompetence and frightening ineptitude, resulting in the collapse of the Ghanaian economy and an excruciating cost of living crisis;<\/li>\n<li>Gross mismanagement of the Ghanaian economy which as occasioned untold and unprecedented hardship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The ongoing crisis has seen inflation reach 37.2 percent and the cedi tagged as the worst-performing currency in 2022 with it trading at around GH\u00a214 to a dollar.<\/p>\n<p>The motion was filed a day before a group of Majority MPs also came out asking for the removal of the Finance Minister as well as the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen.<\/p>\n<p>Previous calls for the removal of Ken Ofori-Atta have been rebuffed by President Akufo-Addo, who <strong>said he would continue to back Mr. Ofori-Atta<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"-qYrp-1Ng98\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sack Ofori-Atta and Adu Boahen now \u2013 Some Majority MPs demand\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-qYrp-1Ng98?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All the Members of Parliament on the Minority side are signatories to a motion for a vote of censure on Ken Ofori-Atta, the Finance Minister, filed on Monday.
