On behalf of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), certain members of parliament have requested that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo dismiss Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta and Minister of State for Finance Charles Adu Boahen. This is a result of the economy’s growing difficulties. Prices have soared, the cedi is losing value, and the cost of life is astronomically high.<\/p>\n

President does not comply with their request, the NPP MPs who made the call stated they will not participate in the hearing and debate on the 2023 budget.<\/p>\n
Addressing a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday, October 25, a lawmaker for Asante Akyem North, Andy Appiah Kubi said \u201cWe are unhappy with the development in the country, we consulted our constituents who also expressed the sentiments. We want the President to remove Ken Ofori and Chares Adu Boahen<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to serve notice and notice is hereby served\u00a0that until\u00a0such persons\u00a0as aforementioned\u00a0are made to resign or removed\u00a0from office, we\u00a0members of the Majority Caucus\u00a0here in Parliament\u00a0will not participate in any business of Government by or\u00a0for the president by any other Minster.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope that\u00a0those of us\u00a0in the back bench\u00a0and members of the Majority caucus\u00a0will abide by this\u00a0prayer.\u00a0We are saying that\u00a0if our request is not responded to positively\u00a0we will not be present for the budget hearing\u00a0neither will we participate in the debate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Several talks have emanated over the past months of the poor performance of the current Finance Minister of Ghana, Ken Ofori-Atta. A lot of Ghanaians have argued vehemently on some basis why he should either resign or be sacked immediately. Top on the list is the massive borrowing by the Finance Minister. Some have also submitted that anytime the nation borrows, the Finance Minister gets some money for his firm since his institution advises the State on its borrowing. As a result;t, many have described this as a conflict of interest.<\/p>\n
Some persons have also submitted that the Banking System clean-up was a complete mess and was a wrong move by the Finance Minister. The least spoke of the depreciating Ghana cedi, the better. The cedi has lost over 60 percent in value to the dollar from January this year.<\/p>\n
