GUTA berates GRA for intention to increase benchmark value"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"691\" height=\"394\"  alt=\"\" title=\"GRA building\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/GRA-building.jpg\" data- class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image lazyload\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"691\" height=\"394\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/GRA-building.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"GRA building\"\/><\/noscript><\/div>\n<p><strong>The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has appealed to policy makers to immediately stop the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) from its intention to increase the benchmark value.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to GUTA, the intention is an \u201cabuse of their discretion\u201d and \u201ctotally unacceptable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued on Monday, October 24, GUTA said it has got winds of GRA\u2019s intention to increase the benchmark values in the face of the current economic crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hereby categorically state that the use of the benchmark value as a valuation method is illegitimate and contrary to the World Trade Organisation\u2019s (WTO) valuations system, which should not be encouraged in every sense of the word,\u201d the statement signed by GUTA President Dr Joseph Obeng said.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Obeng recalled how the latest increase in benchmark value led to \u201cescalation of import duties\u201d and agitations among traders.<\/p>\n<p>But the decision was rescinded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we issue this statement, the benchmark reduction policy has become a topical issue that has not been resolved, so for GRA to bring any increment to aggravate the situation in the country is totally unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has appealed to policy makers to immediately stop the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) from its intention to increase the benchmark value.
