Paul Feig hopes to make sequels to \u201cThe School for Good and Evil\u201d.<\/p>\n
The 60-year-old director has helmed the new Netflix fantasy film that is based on Soman Chainani\u2019s novel of the same name, and hopes to take the story forward as there are six books in the series to adapt.<\/p>\n
Feig told \u201cEntertainment Weekly\u201d: \u201cThe goal is definitely for this to be a franchise.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s the plan going forward, just take all the material of these books, and hopefully make a franchise out of it. We love the characters, love the world. The books are super fun and very dense.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u201cBridesmaids\u201d director says there was a lot that he still wanted to explore on screen as he couldn\u2019t fit everything from the first book into the film.<\/p>\n
Watch video:<\/strong><\/p>\n Feig explained: \u201cLook, if we were to shoot everything in the first book, the movie would cost billions of dollars.<\/p>\n \u201cYou take the things that the audience, the readers, and the fans love from the books and then you retrofit them in a way to still make it your own but in a way that they\u2019re going to be happy.\u201d<\/p>\n The director continued: \u201cYou\u2019re also going to have an audience who doesn\u2019t know the books, or an audience who\u2019s just experiencing it without having to know the material \u2013 I\u2019m very against any movies where you have to know things before you go there.\u201d<\/p>\n Feig wanted to make sure that fans who had never read \u201cThe School for Good and Evil\u201d could easily understand the film.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cIt\u2019s fun to watch a comic-book movie if you\u2019ve grown up with the comic books and you know all those characters because there are all these Easter eggs.<\/p>\n \u201cBut I also find that can be very excluding to audiences. For this (film), you don\u2019t have to know about the book. Come in, enjoy the story, enjoy these characters, then if you want to go and read the books after that, that\u2019s great.<\/p>\n \u201cThey both need to stand on their own. And hopefully we\u2019ll continue to do that in a sequel.\u201d<\/p>\n
