Oct. 24 (UPI) \u2014<\/span> McDonald\u2019s seasonal McRib returns next week, but apparently for the last time as the fast food restaurant chain announced the legendary sandwich\u2019s \u201cFarewell Tour.\u201d<\/p>\n

The boneless pork sandwich, smothered in barbecue sauce and topped with slivered onions, has enjoyed a faithful following as McDonald\u2019s has rotated the McRib on and off of its menu since it debuted in 1981.\n<\/p>\n

But, according to McDonald\u2019s announcement on Monday, the McRib will arrive on Halloween and then vanish forever on Nov. 20.<\/p>\n

\u201cGet one while you can because this is the McRib Farewell Tour,\u201d McDonald\u2019s wrote on its website. \u201cEnjoy our famous pork sandwich as if it\u2019s your last!\u201d\n<\/p>\n

The McRib has headlined McDonald\u2019s U.S. menu every fall for the past three years, after it disappeared for nearly a decade. The McRib was designed to be \u201cenjoyed during the colder seasons,\u201d according to Mike Bullington, senior archives manager for McDonald\u2019s. But, this year, the company suggested it is the end of the line.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike any true farewell tour, we\u2019re hoping this isn\u2019t a \u2018goodbye\u2019 but a \u2018see you later.\u2019 Because as our McRib stans have experienced time and time again: you never know when \u2014 or if \u2014 the McRib is coming back,\u201d the company said in a statement.\n<\/p>\n

The McRib has appeared on McDonald\u2019s menu on a part-time basis throughout the United States for four decades. The 520-calorie sandwich is a permanent menu item at McDonald\u2019s restaurants in Germany and Luxembourg.\n<\/p>\n

While response on social media to the McRib\u2019s \u201cFarewell Tour\u201d has ranged from cynical to outraged, McDonald\u2019s is taking advantage of the hype by adding throwback merchandise, including artwork and t-shirts, for the sandwich\u2019s cult following.<\/p>\n
