General Secretary Aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, says the NDC\u2019s distrust for the Electoral Commission (EC) has made the party stronger than ever.<\/p>\n
According to him, the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission has proven to be biased in favour of the ruling government thus fuelling their distrust for the Commission and their conviction to win the 2024 elections.<\/p>\n
Speaking on JoyNews\u2019 PM Express, Dr. Otokunor stated that despite their distrust for the Commission, they are currently engaging with the EC to ensure that some significant changes are made to address the NDC\u2019s grievances about the Commission.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur relationship with the Electoral Commission has made the party even more stronger in our bid towards 2024 because this Electoral Commission is an Electoral Commission that we do not trust and we don\u2019t intend to trust unless maybe some significant changes come up.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs it stands now, we have boycotted IPAC meetings and we\u2019re having some kind of engagement to see how we would resolve our grievances and get back together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He further suggested that the EC is not the only state institution the NDC has developed a deep-seated distrust for.<\/p>\n
He indicated that with state institutions such as the judiciary and the security services aligned with the ruling government it is of the greatest essence that the NDC wins a landslide victory at the polls.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cSo we are very clear in our mind that in 2024 we are not getting an Electoral Commission that will be neutral so we would have to be our own Electoral Commission; we\u2019re not going to get security services that will be neutral so we\u2019ll have to be our own security services; we\u2019re not going to get a judiciary that will be neutral and we\u2019re going to be our own judges.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is why we have indicated that in 2024 we\u2019re going for a straight win, and we\u2019re not going to dilly-dally about and say we\u2019re going to court and all that. We\u2019re going for the kill at the polling station and we\u2019re going to make sure that we produce the results.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause among other things this battle is not a battle for the NDC alone, it\u2019s a battle for the very survival of this country, for the very survival of humanity in Ghana because the kind of plummeting and the kind of deterioration that this nation is going through, if we do not save this country in 2024 we will not have any country after 2024,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
