{"id":1232496,"date":"2022-10-24T07:20:49","date_gmt":"2022-10-24T07:20:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/24\/mahama-to-speak-on-the-economy-on-thursday\/"},"modified":"2022-10-24T07:20:49","modified_gmt":"2022-10-24T07:20:49","slug":"mahama-to-speak-on-the-economy-on-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/24\/mahama-to-speak-on-the-economy-on-thursday\/","title":{"rendered":"Mahama to speak on the economy on Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"470\"  alt=\"\" title=\"John Mahama\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/1666596049_80_John-Mahama-696x470.png\" data- class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image lazyload\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"470\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/1666596049_80_John-Mahama-696x470.png\"   alt=\"\" title=\"John Mahama\"\/><\/noscript><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Former President John Dramani Mahama will be speaking on the economy on Thursday October 27.<\/p>\n<p>This was announced by the National Communications Officer pf the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Sammy Gyamfi on Monday October 24.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJohn Mahama speaks on Ghana\u2019s collapsed economy and the unprecedented hardships sweeping across the land and the way forward on Thursday 27th October at 7pm,\u201d Mr Gyamfi tweeted.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">John Mahama speaks on Ghana\u2019s collapsed economy and the unprecedented hardships sweeping across the land and the way forward on Thursday 27th October at 7pm.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sammy Gyamfi (@SammyGyamfi_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SammyGyamfi_\/status\/1584432158642348033?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 24, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mr Mahama descended on the current government on the economic difficulties Ghanaians are going through, describing the situation as dire.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed concerns whether the country can even survive until an IMF programme is reached because the economy appears to be heading into a crash.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing leadership of the\u00a0Ghana Journalists Association\u00a0(GJA) at his office on Friday, former President Mahama said the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, all along, had been hiding behind a woeful economy and he was rather painting a rosy picture as if all was well.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Mahama, therefore, charged the government to be transparent and call for help from well-meaning Ghanaians with the \u201cbest brains\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government should come clean and tell us, \u2018What is the state of the economy?\u2019 You must put everything on the table,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is why I called for a national dialogue. I said bring the best brains together. I have been president before, it served me well. I called the Senchi Forum, it didn\u2019t reduce my stature as President.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said if immediate action is not taken, \u201cit will be catastrophic for all of us\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana is currently at the\u00a0International Monetary Fund\u00a0(IMF) seeking a $3-billion cushion to save the ailing economy.<\/p>\n<p>The programme is expected to be reached by close of 2022.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By Laud Nartey|3news.com|Ghana<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 Former President John Dramani Mahama will be speaking on the economy on Thursday October 27.
