Tap and hold on any block of text inside a photo; if the app recognizes it, it\u2019ll be selected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Next, you have a few options. You can use the handles at the edges of the selection to select less or more text, or you can tap <strong>Select All<\/strong> to highlight all the text. You can also pick <strong>Copy<\/strong> to send it to the clipboard, <strong>Translate<\/strong> to translate it, or <strong>Share<\/strong> to send it to someone else through another app.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The Photos app for macOS has similar functionality: Open up an image as if you\u2019re going to edit it, and when you hover the cursor over a block of text, you\u2019ll be able to select it. It\u2019s part of the PowerToys bundle from Microsoft, and when you install it on your system you\u2019ll see there are a variety of useful tools included.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">If you launch PowerToys and then switch to the Text Extractor screen, you\u2019ll see instructions to activate the utility. With the image on screen, press <strong>Win+Shift+T<\/strong>, and you can drag out a selection window over the text in the image. You can also use Shift to move the selection window as you\u2019re dragging it out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The text recognized by Text Extractor is then copied to the Windows clipboard\u2014all you need to do is switch to another program (like Notepad) and press <strong>Ctrl+V<\/strong> to paste the text wherever it\u2019s needed. TextSniper is a polished, intuitive tool for macOS that lets you quickly drag a selection box over the text you want to capture, which is then extracted and sent to the clipboard. It\u2019ll set you back a one-off fee of $8, but you can try it for free, and it comes with bonus extras such as a text-to-speech feature.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The versatile Snagit is another option\u2014the software covers screen capture, screen recordings, video editing, image annotations, and much more besides text extraction. Again, it\u2019s just a question of selecting the image with the text, and then you\u2019ll find it on your clipboard. The application is available for Windows and macOS, and costs $50 after a free trial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">i2OCR is a competent, free, online text extraction utility that gets you your text in a few seconds and through a straightforward step-by-step process.
