{"id":1231218,"date":"2022-10-21T21:26:49","date_gmt":"2022-10-21T21:26:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/21\/fussag-joins-strike-by-utag-other-tertiary-worker-unions\/"},"modified":"2022-10-21T21:26:49","modified_gmt":"2022-10-21T21:26:49","slug":"fussag-joins-strike-by-utag-other-tertiary-worker-unions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/21\/fussag-joins-strike-by-utag-other-tertiary-worker-unions\/","title":{"rendered":"FUSSAG joins strike by UTAG, other tertiary worker unions\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Federation of Universities Senior Staff Associations (FUSSAG) has joined the ongoing strike by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) for better service conditions.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">FUSSAG in a statement said, \u201cour members are also actively involved in the strike in whatever form, shape or direction it takes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The strike by UTAG is to demand a reversal of the government\u2019s decision to pay the 2022 fuel ex-pump allowance instead of the 2021 price, and also the payment of vehicle maintenance and off-campus allowances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Other worker unions embarking on the strike are<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) and Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Technical University Teachers\u2019 Association of Ghana (TUTAG) backed the strike.<\/p>\n<p>It said its endorsement of the strike by UTAG is borne out of \u201c<strong>mutual interest<\/strong>\u201d, and threatened to embark on a similar industrial action.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">National Labour Commission (NLC) has instructed the striking unions to, with immediate effect, call off their ongoing strike.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This was arrived by the NLC after meeting with UTAG members on Thursday, October 20, 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Commission directed as follows:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">That the parties engage fitter on the \u201cTerms of Payment and other related matters.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">That both parties should bring to the engagement table, people with mandate to take and\/or make decisions.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">That the engagement should be held in good faith<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">That UTAG should call off the strike immediately<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">That the parties are given two weeks to conclude their engagement on report<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federation of Universities Senior Staff Associations (FUSSAG) has joined the ongoing strike by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) for better service conditions.\u00a0 FUSSAG in a statement said, \u201cour members are also actively involved in the strike in whatever form, shape or direction it takes\u201d.
