{"id":1230984,"date":"2022-10-21T16:19:22","date_gmt":"2022-10-21T16:19:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/21\/govt-to-modernize-tourist-sites-with-gh%c2%a2350m\/"},"modified":"2022-10-21T16:19:22","modified_gmt":"2022-10-21T16:19:22","slug":"govt-to-modernize-tourist-sites-with-gh%c2%a2350m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/21\/govt-to-modernize-tourist-sites-with-gh%c2%a2350m\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt to modernize tourist sites with GH\u00a2350m \u2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, BlinkMacSystemFont, -apple-system, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif; font-size: 15px;\">The Government of Ghana with support from the World Bank is spending GH\u00a2350 million to modernise tourist attractions across the country, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, the Tourism Minister, has said.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>He said the initiative was in line with the government\u2019s commitment to make the tourism sector a veritable tool for economic transformation, thereby contributing to job creation and wealth of the people.<\/p>\n<p>In a press briefing at the Information Ministry, the minister said the conscious efforts made towards the various areas of the sector were to make the sector the highest contributor of Ghana\u2019s Gross Domestic Product from its current third position.<\/p>\n<p>He said sites undergoing stages of development were the Pikworo Heritage and the Slave Camp, which is in Paga Nania and currently at phase one of the development; the Yaa Asantewaa Museum at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, whose rehabilitation was expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Awal said the National Museum which has been rehabilitated and opened, had seen 29,363 visitors from June to October 15, as against 12,000 for the whole of 2015 before its closure.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park was also being worked on and earmarked for completion and reopening\u00a0in March 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The minister mentioned that the Cape Coast and Elmina Castles, Shai Hills, Mole Park and the W.E.B Du Bois Centre were yet to be rehabilitated.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, Ghana\u2019s potential and achievements in the creative industry was huge, and stated the government\u2019s plan to construct five multipurpose domes or amphitheatres.<\/p>\n<p>He said the country\u2019s Cultural Policy and the Development of Tourism Policy were being reviewed to boost tourism and create value. \u201cGhana has a comparative advantage in tourism and hospitality in West Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout 65 per cent of all edifices used during the slave trade are located in Ghana, which can be used to boost heritage tourism,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>(function(d, s, id) {\n  var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];\n  if (d.getElementById(id)) return;\n  js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;\n  js.src=\"https:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v3.1&appId=1201200913327594&autoLogAppEvents=1\";\n  fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);\n}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));<\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/starrfm.com.gh\/2022\/10\/govt-to-modernize-tourist-sites-with-gh%C2%A2350m\/\">Source<\/a> <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Government of Ghana with support from the World Bank is spending GH\u00a2350 million to modernise tourist attractions across the country, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, the Tourism Minister, has said.
