<\/div>\nCristiano Ronaldo has taken to social media to respond after he was dropped from the Manchester United squad for the Chelsea game at the weekend.<\/p>\n
The Portuguese was sanctioned after he headed down the tunnel before the end of his side\u2019s match with Tottenham on Wednesday. Reports would later emerge\u00a0that he had refused to come on when asked, and that he has a\u00a0fractious relationship with some of manager Erik ten Hag\u2019s backroom staff.<\/p>\n
However, the 37-year-old has taken to social media, posting a passionate response, saying that he tries to treat colleagues, adversaries and coaches respectfully, but he did add that \u201cthe heat of the moment gets the best of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The forward did not specifically reference the club\u2019s decision to\u00a0banish him from the first-team squad for the weekend match.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs I\u2019ve always done throughout my career, I try to live and play respectfully towards my colleagues, my adversaries and my coaches,\u201d wrote Ronaldo.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat hasn\u2019t changed. I haven\u2019t changed. I\u2019m the same person and the same professional that I\u2019ve been for the last 20 years playing elite football, and respect has always played a very important role in my decision-making process.<\/p>\n
\u201cI started very young, the older and most experienced players\u2019 examples were always very important to me. Therefore, later on, I\u2019ve always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters that grew in all the teams that I\u2019ve represented. Unfortunately that\u2019s not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment gets the best of us.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight now, I just feel that I have to keep working hard in Carrington, support my team-mates and be ready for everything in any given game. Giving in to the pressure is not an option. It never was. This is Manchester United, and united we must stand. Soon we\u2019ll be together again.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the immediate aftermath of the Tottenham match, Ten Hag indicated that he was not happy with Ronaldo\u2019s conduct and has now acted.<\/p>\n
Asked whether Ronaldo had told him he was leaving the pitch early, Ten Hag revealed what happened to Amazon Prime Video Sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was there, I have seen him, yea, but I did not speak to him after,\u201d began Ten Hag.<\/p>\n
Pressed by host Gabby Logan whether that is something he would normally not want to happen, Ten Hag added: \u201cI will deal with that tomorrow. Not today. We are celebrating this victory and now we must recover.\u201d<\/p>\n
United would release a statement on Thursday saying the following: \u201cCristiano will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday\u2019s game against Chelsea. The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that.\u201d<\/p>\n
