Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of Manchester United\u2019s squad for Saturday\u2019s game at Chelsea.<\/p>\n

The Portugal forward left Old Trafford\u00a0before the end of Wednesday\u2019s 2-0 Premier League win over Tottenham \u2013 for which he was an unused substitute.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture,\u201d a club statement said.<\/p>\n

United say the 37-year-old remains an important part of the squad but regard this as a disciplinary matter.<\/p>\n

The game he will miss at Stamford Bridge is a big one, with United just one point behind fourth-placed Chelsea.<\/p>\n

Several media outlets\u00a0are reporting he refused to come on as a late sub against Spurs.<\/p>\n

Ronaldo left the bench and walked down the tunnel in the 89th minute, even though United had only made three of their permitted five substitutions. He briefly went into the dressing room before leaving the stadium.<\/p>\n

Manager Erik ten Hag said afterwards that he would \u201cdeal with\u201d the issue on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Ronaldo had also showed his displeasure at being substituted during Sunday\u2019s 0-0 home draw with Newcastle.<\/p>\n

Former England striker Gary Lineker said Ronaldo\u2019s behaviour took attention away from United\u2019s impressive performance against Spurs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is unacceptable \u2013 it is so poor,\u201d Lineker said on BBC Match of the Day.<\/p>\n

Ex-Wales captain Ashley Williams said: \u201cIt was a great night for Manchester United and here we are again talking about Cristiano Ronaldo \u2013 even though he didn\u2019t play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former England defender Micah Richards said: \u201cFor one of the greats of the game to do that when your team are winning, making it about him, is disappointing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richards said Ronaldo\u2019s behaviour was \u201cdisrespectful\u201d and he should be allowed to leave in the January transfer window.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis manager had problems with him at the start of the season, during pre-season, and to then carry this on\u2026 I just think there is only one way this needs to go now,\u201d Richards told BBC Radio 4.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey need to come to an agreement in January and they need to let him go. He is undermining the manager there, so I think it\u2019s best if they just part ways.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel said Ronaldo would have been aware such behaviour would create \u201cheadlines\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the first time I can say that I am disappointed with him. Normally I back him; I understand his situation,\u201d Schmeichel told BBC Radio 5 Live.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in transition. Manchester United are now five managers down the road since Alex Ferguson.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have got Erik ten Hag in now who has very clear ideas about the way he wants to play football. We need understanding and time from everyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t need distractions like that, and that\u2019s a disappointment, I would say.\u201d<\/p>\n
