{"id":1230148,"date":"2022-10-20T19:36:35","date_gmt":"2022-10-20T19:36:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/20\/government-seeks-to-make-ghana-the-mining-hub-in-africa-jinapor\/"},"modified":"2022-10-20T19:36:35","modified_gmt":"2022-10-20T19:36:35","slug":"government-seeks-to-make-ghana-the-mining-hub-in-africa-jinapor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/20\/government-seeks-to-make-ghana-the-mining-hub-in-africa-jinapor\/","title":{"rendered":"Government seeks\u00a0to make Ghana the mining hub in Africa \u2013 Jinapor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"article-text\">\n<p>Minister\u00a0of Lands and Natural Resources,\u00a0Samuel Abu Jinapor,\u00a0has disclosed the government\u2019s quest\u00a0to make Ghana the mining hub in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>He believes the country can achieve this by building the human resource base of the mining industry.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister was speaking at the 5<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0national conference of human resource management in the mining industry.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"644\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-10-20-at-18.29.16-1024x644.jpeg\" alt=\"Government seeks\u00a0to make Ghana the mining hub in Africa \u2013 Jinapor\" class=\"wp-image-10032193143 lazy\"  data- title=\"Government seeks\u00a0to make Ghana the mining hub in Africa \u2013 Jinapor\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>International consulting firm, Korn Ferry, estimates that by 2030, there will be a global talent shortage of over eighty-five million people.<\/p>\n<p>It indicates industries that require highly skilled labour will be the hardest hit.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister\u00a0for Lands and Natural Resources has observed\u00a0the need for human resource professionals to attract and retain new talents to meet the industry\u2019s future demands.<\/p>\n<p>Samuel Abu Jinapor noted the sustainability of Ghana\u2019s mining industry and the quest to make Ghana the mining hub of Africa lies in training and building local capacity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vision of President Akufo-Addo is to make Ghana the mining hub of Africa, where all mining and mining related activities, from exploration to downstream production, and from research to innovation, will be centred.\u00a0This requires that we build a human resource base, with strong local content and local participation, that responds to the future needs of the industry, not only in mining, but across the entire value chain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Jinapor advised the Human Resource Professionals in the mining industry, to as a matter of importance, familiarise themselves with the requirements of L.I. 2431, particularly the localisation programme for the recruitment and training of Ghanaians.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mining industry, in particular, is associated with many risks, and motivation and fair treatment are important for our workforce, who form the backbone of our success, to give out their best. This can only be achieved when Human Resource Departments work closely with workers\u2019 unions to build consensus and strive towards organisational objectives together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With advancements in technology, even the most experienced workers need to update their knowledge to stay relevant in the industry.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"600\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/NEW--1024x600.jpg\" alt=\"Government seeks\u00a0to make Ghana the mining hub in Africa \u2013 Jinapor\" class=\"wp-image-10032193156 lazy\"  data- title=\"Government seeks\u00a0to make Ghana the mining hub in Africa \u2013 Jinapor\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>The conference seeks to find solutions to challenges confronting the industry, employers and labour.<\/p>\n<p>The theme, \u201cTransforming people management for sustainable mining industry in Ghana\u201d, aligns with the mission statement of the Ghana Chamber of Mines to use \u201cresources and capabilities of its members to deliver services to government and community needs to enhance sustainable development\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEffective people management is intrinsically linked to corporate performance and sustainability, hence the need for HR practitioners to constantly update themselves on managing employees.\u00a0Human resources is the central pillar of any organisation\u2019s success, and the Chamber is keen to see the attraction and retention of the best talent in our industry,\u201d Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber, Sulemanu Koney said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Sulemanu-Koney-is-Chief-Executive-Officer-of-the-Chamber-1024x576.png\" alt=\"Government seeks\u00a0to make Ghana the mining hub in Africa \u2013 Jinapor\" class=\"wp-image-10032193158 lazy\"  data- title=\"Government seeks\u00a0to make Ghana the mining hub in Africa \u2013 Jinapor\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>In line with this, the Chamber has taken various initiatives to support the human capital development of the industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Jinapor revealed that the Ministry has handed over USD83,538 research grant to six faculty members and five post-graduate students at the University to conduct research in the mining industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mining industry can be more productive and sustainable with the confluence of research, attraction and retention of the right talent and skills.
