{"id":1228946,"date":"2022-10-19T16:23:13","date_gmt":"2022-10-19T16:23:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/19\/bmw-to-invest-1-7b-to-build-evs-in-south-carolina\/"},"modified":"2022-10-19T16:23:13","modified_gmt":"2022-10-19T16:23:13","slug":"bmw-to-invest-1-7b-to-build-evs-in-south-carolina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/19\/bmw-to-invest-1-7b-to-build-evs-in-south-carolina\/","title":{"rendered":"BMW to invest $1.7B to build EVs in South Carolina \u2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\">BMW plans to invest $1.7 billion to build at least six EV models in the U.S. by the end of the decade.<\/p>\n<p>The investment announced Wednesday includes $1 billion toward BMW\u2019s factory in Spartanburg, South Carolina and $700 million to fund a new battery cell plant nearby.<\/p>\n<p>The factory, which builds BMW\u2019s portfolio of X utility vehicles as well as lithium-ion battery modules for two plug-in hybrid electric models, will be \u201ca major driver\u201d for BMW\u2019s electrification strategy, Oliver Zipse, BMW Group Chairman of the Board of Management, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>A new battery plant operated by Chinese supplier Envision Automotive Energy Supply Corporation will supply the factory with round lithium-ion battery cells developed for the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology and the automaker\u2019s next-generation EVs.
