That took its losses this year to more than 45%, the most among 148 currencies tracked by Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on this, Dr Kwakye tweeted \u201cUrgent interventions are needed to stop the haemorrhaging of the cedi.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Urgent interventions are neede to stop the haemorrhaging of the cedi. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/FixTheCediNow?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#FixTheCediNow<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 J. Kwakye (@JohnKwabenaKwa1) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JohnKwabenaKwa1\/status\/1582273567928242176?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 18, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The BoG recently identified five key reasons for the woes of the local currency.<\/p>\n<p>They were \u201cThe strength of the US dollar, Investor reaction to Credit Rating Downgrade, Non-Roll over of Maturing Bonds, The sharp rise in crude oil prices and impact on the Oil Bill, Loss of External Financing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The central bank went ahead to announce measures introduced to resolve the situation.<\/p>\n<p>They were are the \u201cGold Purchase Program to increase foreign exchange reserves; Special Foreign Exchange Auction for the Bulk Distribution Company\u2019s (BDCs) to help with the importation of petroleum products; Bank of Ghana is entering into a cooperation agreement with the mining companies to provide BOG with the opportunity to buy gold as when it becomes available.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bank of Ghana is supporting the banking sector with foreign currency liquidity to help meet the demand for external payments.
