{"id":1226357,"date":"2022-10-17T09:19:03","date_gmt":"2022-10-17T09:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/17\/sammy-gyamfi-questions-bawumias-silence-on-cedi-woes-soaring-fuel-prices\/"},"modified":"2022-10-17T09:19:03","modified_gmt":"2022-10-17T09:19:03","slug":"sammy-gyamfi-questions-bawumias-silence-on-cedi-woes-soaring-fuel-prices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/17\/sammy-gyamfi-questions-bawumias-silence-on-cedi-woes-soaring-fuel-prices\/","title":{"rendered":"Sammy Gyamfi questions Bawumia\u2019s silence on cedi woes, soaring fuel prices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not giving Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia some slack over the current economic challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gyamfi says he can\u2019t fathom why the head of government\u2019s Economic Management Team, who was hailed by New Patriotic Party members as an \u201ceconomic messiah\u201d, has remained silent amid soaring fuel prices, the free fall of the cedi and general hardship in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>The NDC stalwart took to Twitter to call out the Vice President.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA gallon of diesel is selling at GHS72 while the dollar is selling at GHS12.5. The cost of living keeps soaring but the braggadocios talkative and chairman of the EMT @MBawumia (Dr. Bawumia), who was once projected as the answer to all our economic woes, has gone AWOL.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-887210\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-10-17-at-8.03.21-AM.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"499\" height=\"825\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWill things ever get better?\u201d Sammy Gyamfi asked.<\/p>\n<p>The Ghanaian economy is in dire straits.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the dollar is trading at a little over GH\u00a212 to $1 with no end to the free fall of the Ghanaian currency in sight.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"hrPjHFfUZXM\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Cedi depreciation: Over 70 persons arrested for dealing in forex without licence from BoG | CNR\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hrPjHFfUZXM?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>With regard to fuel prices, petrol is selling at GH\u00a213.10 per litre, while diesel is being sold at over GH\u00a215 per litre at some pumps.<\/p>\n<p>Watchers of the space are predicting that fuel could be sold at GH\u00a218 per litre by December if government does not intervene.<\/p>\n<p>The inflation rate has also gone up significantly in the last nine months and hit 37.2% in September 2022, the highest in the last 21 years.<\/p>\n<p>Several efforts by the government to salvage the ailing economy have yielded no positive results.<\/p>\n<p>This has compelled the Government of Ghana to seek economic support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"R2Y_97wmUnM\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Fuel price hikes: Consumers to pay over GHS 15 for diesel soon - COPEC  | Business Weekly\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/R2Y_97wmUnM?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not giving Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia some slack over the current economic challenges.
