{"id":1224794,"date":"2022-10-14T18:17:43","date_gmt":"2022-10-14T18:17:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/14\/robbie-coltrane-harry-potter-actor-dies-aged-72\/"},"modified":"2022-10-14T18:17:43","modified_gmt":"2022-10-14T18:17:43","slug":"robbie-coltrane-harry-potter-actor-dies-aged-72","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/14\/robbie-coltrane-harry-potter-actor-dies-aged-72\/","title":{"rendered":"Robbie Coltrane: Harry Potter actor dies aged 72"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>Robbie Coltrane was well known for playing Hagrid in the Harry Potter films Photo credit: Warner Bros<\/p>\n<div id=\"article-text\">\n<p>Actor Robbie Coltrane, who played Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, has died aged 72.<\/p>\n<p>He also appeared in ITV detective drama Cracker and the James Bond films Goldeneye and The World Is Not Enough.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, his agent Belinda Wright confirmed the actor died in hospital near Falkirk in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>She described Coltrane as a \u201cunique talent\u201d, adding his role as Hagrid \u201cbrought joy to children and adults alike all over the world\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me personally I shall remember him as an abidingly loyal client. As well as being a wonderful actor, he was forensically intelligent, brilliantly witty and after 40 years of being proud to be called his agent, I shall miss him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is survived by his sister Annie Rae, his children Spencer and Alice and their mother Rhona Gemmell. They would like to thank the medical staff at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert for their care and diplomacy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease respect Robbie\u2019s family\u2019s privacy at this distressing time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harry Potter author JK Rowling led the tributes on Twitter, describing Coltrane as an \u201cincredible talent\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I\u2019ll never know anyone remotely like Robbie again. He was an incredible talent, a complete one off, and I was beyond fortunate to know him, work with him and laugh my head off with him. Farewell, old fellow, you\u2019ll be so dreadfully missed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scotland\u2019s first minister\u00a0Nicola Sturgeon described\u00a0Coltrane\u2019s death as \u201cvery sad news\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had such range and depth as an actor, from brilliant comedy to hard-edged drama. I think my favourite of all his roles was Fitz in Cracker,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRobbie Coltrane, Scottish entertainment legend \u2013 you will be hugely missed.
