Some people say they\u2019re praising God and all they say is, \u201cLord, I praise you\u201d; but the truth is that they haven\u2019t praised Him. To give someone a gift, for example, you don\u2019t just say, \u201cI give you a gift\u201d and do nothing; you deliver the actual gift to the person. You don\u2019t give the gift with your mouth; you act it.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the same with praising, thanking and worshipping the Lord. You do it with . When you say, \u201cI bless you, Lord,\u201d then go ahead and bless Him. How do you bless Him? It\u2019s by giving Him thanks: you thank Him for who He is, what He\u2019s done, and for His glory in your life.<\/p>\n
There has to be a meaning when you thank Him; what\u2019s the thanks connected to? So, you say, \u201cI thank you Lord for X, Y, Z.\u201d It must be connected to something; otherwise, you only muttered words. If I came to you and said, \u201cThank you,\u201d you\u2019d want to know what I\u2019m thanking you for.<\/p>\n

Even when He tells us to have a heart that\u2019s full of thanksgiving, it still has a purpose; there\u2019s something in your heart that you\u2019re thanking Him for. I may pray in my privacy and say, \u201cFather, thank you\u201d; that\u2019s because in my heart, I have so many things I\u2019m grateful to Him for that I\u2019m not voicing, because God sees the heart. In my heart are these beautiful thoughts of what He\u2019s done for me or said to me for which I\u2019m expressing thanks.<\/p>\n
So, always, when you praise Him, it\u2019s got to have meaning; it\u2019s got to have . The is the fruit of your lips, giving thanks to His Name: \u201cBy him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name\u201d (Hebrews 13:15).<\/p>\n
