{"id":1221067,"date":"2022-10-11T08:52:19","date_gmt":"2022-10-11T08:52:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/11\/big-win-for-ghanaians-as-akufo-addo-receives-honorary-doctorate-degree-from-sorbonne-university-in-france\/"},"modified":"2022-10-11T08:52:19","modified_gmt":"2022-10-11T08:52:19","slug":"big-win-for-ghanaians-as-akufo-addo-receives-honorary-doctorate-degree-from-sorbonne-university-in-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/11\/big-win-for-ghanaians-as-akufo-addo-receives-honorary-doctorate-degree-from-sorbonne-university-in-france\/","title":{"rendered":"Big Win for Ghanaians as Akufo Addo receives honorary doctorate degree from Sorbonne University in France \u00bb \u2122"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">&#8211;  &#8211;<\/span><br \/>\n<!-- ResponsiveAll --><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Ghana\u2019s incumbent president in the person of Nana Akufo Addo earned an honorary doctorate from Paris\u2019 Sorbonne University on October 10, 2022, and this puts the country in a good light, globally.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Sorbonne University commended President Akufo-Addo for his efforts to promote democracy in Ghana, peace in West Africa, free senior high school education for all Ghanaian students, and COVID-19 prevention.<\/p>\n<p>The President earned Honorary Doctorates from Fort Hare University of South Africa in May 2016, Liberia in December 2017, and Cape Coast in May 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The President was honoured to join Pablo Picasso, Kofi Annan, Amartya Sen, and Nelson Mandela as Sorbonne University Honorary Doctorates.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">&#8211;  &#8211;<\/span><br \/>\n<!-- ResponsiveAll --><\/p>\n<p>His acceptance speech addressed climate change, equality and justice, multilateral system reform, and international engagement.<\/p>\n<p>President Akufo-Addo said Africa generates 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions but suffers the most.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"td-adspot-title\">&#8211;  &#8211;<\/span><br \/>\n<!-- ResponsiveAll --><\/p>\n<p>Before the Conference of the Parties in Egypt, the Adaptation Summit requested $25 billion by 2025 to mitigate climate change\u2019s implications on food security, resilient infrastructure, employment, and green finance.<\/p>\n<p>He informed the gathering that Africa\u2019s 1.3 billion people\u201418% of the world\u2019s population\u2014would expand to 2.5 billion by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>Africa will impact the world, Europe, and France. Languageless. True. French insists. Africa\u2019s climate change adaptation requires $25 billion over three years. 5x France\u2019s medical transport expenditure. Enough. \u201cDerisive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Akufo-Addo said Africa left Rotterdam with $55 million despite the African Development Bank\u2019s $12.5 billion ambition. G20 emits 80%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes. Millions. 54 countries, 55 million. 1000000. Africa should have been supported more.
