A serious heart condition forced him to do so.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/50792f31b41a4f3393aa483a29f131d4\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Premier League club Brighton &#038; Hove Albion footballer Enock Mwepu has been forced to retire aged just 24 after the Zambian international was diagnosed with an inherited heart condition. <span style=\"color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.870588);\">This disease, which can worsen with age, poses &#8220;an extremely high risk of suffering a life-threatening cardiac arrest if he continues to play competitive football&#8221;, his club explained<\/span> on Monday. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/d3dd94501c1140208dcd2438bfe750fc\"\/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.870588);\">The player felt ill during a flight to join Zambia during the last international break in September, and after hospitalization in Mali, he underwent further tests on his return to England. \u201cThese examinations concluded that his disease is due to an inherited heart condition which manifests later in life and which was not detectable during regular cardiac examinations until now,\u201d detailed the club.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The condition, which can worsen over time, would put Enock at extremely high risk of life-threatening cardiac arrest if he continues to play football,&#8221; Brighton said.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.870588);\">At the same time, Mwepu went public with the end of his career on social media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2b6cc41692ae4d08a6526d3f76a67c74\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mwepu wants to stay connected with football<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome dreams come to an end. I therefore announce with sadness that I have to hang up my football boots on medical advice,\u201d Mwepu wrote on Twitter in an open letter to the Zambia Football Association.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, this is not the end of my football journey as I hope to be able to support the team in other ways.\u201d Colleagues expressed dismay.
