{"id":1219984,"date":"2022-10-10T07:50:03","date_gmt":"2022-10-10T07:50:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/10\/world-bank-ghana-ranks-1st-with-highest-food-price-increases-of-122-in-sub-saharan-africa\/"},"modified":"2022-10-10T07:50:03","modified_gmt":"2022-10-10T07:50:03","slug":"world-bank-ghana-ranks-1st-with-highest-food-price-increases-of-122-in-sub-saharan-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/10\/world-bank-ghana-ranks-1st-with-highest-food-price-increases-of-122-in-sub-saharan-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"World Bank: Ghana ranks 1st with highest food price increases of 122% in Sub-Saharan Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/The-World-Bank.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"article-text\">\n<p>Ghana is ranked 1<sup>st<\/sup> by the World Bank with the highest food prices in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Bretton Wood institution\u2019s October 2022 Africa Pulse Report, food prices have since January 1,2022, gone up by 122%.<\/p>\n<p>Since the start of 2022, food prices have increased sharply in many countries, largely due to the Russian\/Ukraine war.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Food Price Index in Countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Ghana has recorded the sharp prices in food on the African continent.<\/p>\n<p>Food inflation in Ghana has been high, recording a year-on-year inflation of 34.4% in August 2022, the Ghana Statistical Service disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>On month-on-month basis, inflation was even higher.<\/p>\n<p>The drivers of food inflation in Ghana are Oils and Fats (67%); Fish and Other Seafood (42.9%); Water (42%); Cereal products (40%); Milk, Diary Products and Eggs (39.7%), Fruits and Vegetable Juices (37.7%) and Live Animals and Meat (34.5%). All of the items recorded inflation rates higher than the national average of 33.9%.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the World Bank said inflation breached the ceiling of the central bank target bands for all countries with an explicit nominal anchor.<\/p>\n<p>In Nigeria, headline inflation started the year above the central bank limit of 9.0% and accelerated to 20.5% in August 2022 \u2013 the highest since September 2005.
