{"id":1219902,"date":"2022-10-05T18:35:44","date_gmt":"2022-10-05T18:35:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/05\/my-husband-suffered-post-traumatic-stress-disorder-due-to-civil-war-detention-presidential-election-losses\/"},"modified":"2022-10-05T18:35:44","modified_gmt":"2022-10-05T18:35:44","slug":"my-husband-suffered-post-traumatic-stress-disorder-due-to-civil-war-detention-presidential-election-losses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/05\/my-husband-suffered-post-traumatic-stress-disorder-due-to-civil-war-detention-presidential-election-losses\/","title":{"rendered":"My Husband Suffered Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder\u00a0Due To Civil War, Detention, Presidential Election Losses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_715051\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-715051\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-715051\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nigeria\u2019s First Lady Aisha Buhari<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), after he actively participated in the civil war in Nigeria without receiving rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Buhari said this yesterday while attending as the special guest of honor at the Armed Forces Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Centre (AFPTSDC) groundbreaking event organized by the Defence and Police Officers\u2019 Wives Association (DEPOWA) which was led by Mrs. Lucky Irabor.<\/p>\n<p>Revealing how he suffered PTSD following Buhari\u2019s civil war experiences, detention and electoral losses, Aisha said the first mistake she made in Buhari\u2019s house was to tell him his mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>The First Lady noted that being a soldier\u2019s wife or a retired military officer\u2019s wife had negative consequences, adding that she experienced some of these challenges.<\/p>\n<p>She said, \u201cAt the age of 19, I had to figure out how to tell somebody of his (Buhari) calibre that he was wrong or right and that was the beginning of my offence in his house, and contesting elections in 2003 and failed, 2007, failed and 2011, the same thing \u2013 all without rehabilitation \u2013 I became a physiotherapist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a reality that soldiers and military families have to live with, despite its negative consequences. Being a soldier\u2019s wife or a retired soldier\u2019s wife and a wellness expert, I understand the challenges associated with PTSD and its impact on military families and the nation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy husband served the Nigerian Army for 27 years before he was overthrown in a coup d\u2019\u00e9tat. He fought civil war for 30 months without rehabilitation; he ruled Nigeria for 20 months and was detained for 40 months without disclosing the nature of his offence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne year after he came out from detention, we were married, I clocked 19 years in his house as his wife, legitimately.
