{"id":1217398,"date":"2022-10-06T14:21:10","date_gmt":"2022-10-06T14:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/06\/parliament-warns-herald-editor-to-cease-exposes-on-controversial-gnpc-genser-energy-contract\/"},"modified":"2022-10-06T14:21:10","modified_gmt":"2022-10-06T14:21:10","slug":"parliament-warns-herald-editor-to-cease-exposes-on-controversial-gnpc-genser-energy-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/06\/parliament-warns-herald-editor-to-cease-exposes-on-controversial-gnpc-genser-energy-contract\/","title":{"rendered":"Parliament warns Herald Editor to cease expos\u00e9s on controversial GNPC\/Genser Energy contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/akyea(1).png\" alt=\"Samuel Atta Akyea, Chairman of the the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy, and MP for Abuakwa South\" class=\" bd-imagestyles-16\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\nSamuel Atta Akyea, Chairman of the the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy, and MP for Abuakwa South <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2>The Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy has served the Editor of The Herald newspaper, Larry Alans Dogbe notice that he risks Contempt charges by continuing his expos\u00e9s on the controversial Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and Genser Energy Ghana Ltd contracts.<\/h2>\n<p>In a letter dated October 3, 2022, the committee said his publications on the matter have contempt implications, because the committee, clothed with similar powers as the High Court, was investigating the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The letter was signed by the clerk to the committee, Ms Evelyn Brefo-Boateng, as directed by the chairman of the committee, Samuel Atta Akyea, MP for Abuakwa South.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy is very much concerned that, on your own admission, while we are investigating matters of and concerning the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and Genser Energy Ghana Ltd Contracts, your newspaper is incessantly running prejudicial commentary on the very subject matter of our enquiry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am directed by the Hon Chairman of the Committee to remind you that, in terms of Article 103(6) of the Constitution, a Committee of Parliament has the powers, rights and privileges of the High Court.
