If you\u2019re like us, you\u2019ve already watched Hocus Pocus 2<\/i> multiple times \u2014 the long-awaited sequel is an instant classic, and a perfect Halloween flick for both fans of the original and newcomers.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n Of course, if you\u2019re a massive fan of Hocus Pocus<\/i>, you surely noticed a bunch of delightful callbacks, Easter eggs, and more nods to the original flick. Here\u2019s everything we spotted all in one place for your nostalgic enjoyment:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n 1.<\/span><\/p>\n For starters, the opening sequences of both films are very similar \u2014 they both show an overhead, sweeping view of Salem as something (or someone) flies across the screen.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 2.<\/span><\/p>\n This is more of a fun detail than an Easter egg, but the actors who played Young Winnie (Taylor Henderson), Mary (Nina Kitchen), and Sarah (Juju Journey Brener) absolutely nailed it and we NEED to take a look at them side-by-side with their elder counterparts.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 3.<\/span><\/p>\n Also, we finally got to see what dear, sweet Billy Butcherson looked like in his living form.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 4.<\/span><\/p>\n It turns out Mother Witch (Hannah Waddington) is the origin of the Sanderson sisters\u2019 whole \u201ceating the souls of kids for the eternal youth and beauty\u201d thing. You can hear her sing \u201cCome, Little Children\u201d at the beginning of the film when the Sandersons first encounter her.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 5.<\/span><\/p>\n Also, now that we\u2019ve seen Mother Witch in Hocus Pocus 2<\/i>, if you go back to the original film, it looks like Dani\u2019s witch costume resembles Mother Witch.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 6.<\/span><\/p>\n Another major part of that opening encounter? We\u2019re reintroduced to Book! (Or should we say, \u201cBOOOOOOOK!\u201d) You know, THE spell book that belongs to Winnie and the Sanderson sisters. Of course, he comes to be a crucial part of the entire sequel.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 7.<\/span><\/p>\n When young Winifred first opens up Book, she reads \u201ccat transformation spell,\u201d which is the spell she ultimately uses on Thackery Binx at the beginning of Hocus Pocus<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 8.<\/span><\/p>\n If you look closely, when they\u2019re introduced Becca, Izzy, and Cassie wear colors that mirror the Sanderson sisters\u2019 color scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 9.<\/span><\/p>\n In present day Salem, the Sanderson Witch Museum (formerly just their home) has been reopened as the Olde Salem Magic Shop run by Gilbert (Sam Richardson).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 10.<\/span><\/p>\n Gilbert tells a crowd at the shop that on Halloween 29 years ago, some swear they saw the Sanderson sisters. Of course, 29 years ago was 1993 and he\u2019s referring to the original plot of Hocus Pocus<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 11.<\/span><\/p>\n Also, Gilbert telling the story of the Sanderson sisters is very similar to the beginning of Hocus Pocus<\/i>, when Max and Alison\u2019s teacher is telling their story as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 12.<\/span><\/p>\n There\u2019s a hilarious moment when a small child asks Gilbert \u201cWhat\u2019s a virgin?\u201d Whitney Peak (Becca) told EW that the kid\u2019s mom is actually a played by Hocus Pocus 2<\/i> writer Jen D\u2019Angelo making a cameo appearance.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 13.<\/span><\/p>\n In fact, it turns out that Gilbert himself was present the night that everything went down with Max, Alison, and Dani in 1993 and saw the Sanderson sisters right before they vanished at sunrise. If you look closely, you can see the silhouettes of Max, Alison, Dani, and Billy Butcherson in that graveyard scene.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 14.<\/span><\/p>\n Gilbert also refers to Halloween 1993 not being a great year for him because a \u201cbunch of bullies stole all his candy\u201d \u2014 a reference to Jay and Ice in the original film.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 15.<\/span><\/p>\n When Becca and Izzy spot Cassie on the billboard in town, you can actually see what looks like the Dennison\u2019s family home from the original film behind Cassie in the photo.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 16.<\/span><\/p>\n When Becca and Izzy first encounter the Sanderson sisters, Mary talks about \u201cthe boys being in cages\u201d and the \u201cfake sunrise\u201d that tricked them. These are obviously callbacks to what happened with Jay and Ice and then with Max, Alison, and Dani in Hocus Pocus. <\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 17.<\/span><\/p>\n When the Sanderson sisters discover Walgreens, they need to acquire new modes of transportation. Mary hilariously decides to use robot vacuums, while Sarah is on a Swiffer. This is a fun callback to when they used a good old-fashioned 1993-era vacuum and mop in the first film.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 18.<\/span><\/p>\n When the Sanderson sisters enter Gilbert\u2019s shop for the first time, Sarah remarks that her rat tails are missing. In Hocus Pocus<\/i>, the first thing she found in the cottage when they returned were her lucky rat tails.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 19.<\/span><\/p>\n Sarah confuses Gilbert\u2019s cat Cobweb for Thackery Binx, saying \u201cThe Binx boy, he lives?\u201d and Winifred swears it\u2019s really Thackery.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 20.<\/span><\/p>\n At one point, Gilbert suggests the Sanderson sisters try a calming circle, which is something Mary mentioned in the first movie.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 21.<\/span><\/p>\n When Winifred reads the spell, Sarah remarks that they aren\u2019t allowed in a sacred place, which we learned about in Hocus Pocus<\/i> when Binx told Max, Alison, and Dani to hide in the graveyard.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 22.<\/span><\/p>\n At the town fair, Mayor Traske (Tony Hale) stands in line in front of a couple wearing a devil costume and a robe and curlers. This is, of course, a callback to Garry and Penny Marshall\u2019s cameo in the first movie.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 23.<\/span><\/p>\n In fact, later in the movie, we see someone watching this exact<\/i> scene in Hocus Pocus<\/i>. Which means Hocus Pocus<\/i> THE MOVIE exists in the Hocus Pocus 2<\/i> universe.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 24.<\/span><\/p>\n Like in the original movie, the Sandersons perform a song to put the townspeople into a trance. Originally it was \u201cI Put A Spell On You\u201d and this time it was \u201cOne Way Or Another.\u201d But the \u201cspell\u201d portion of the song used the same lyrics \u2014 \u201cAh say into pi alpha mabi upendi.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 25.<\/span><\/p>\n When everyone in town is under the Sanderson sisters\u2019 spell and they dance through town, you can see someone is dressed up as Madonna. This is a nod to Hocus Pocus<\/i> when Dani and Max\u2019s mom went as Madonna for Halloween, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 26.<\/span><\/p>\n The girls rely on a circle of salt as a way to keep the Sanderson sisters contained, which is a nod to the way that Alison handled them in the first movie.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n 27.<\/span><\/p>\n When the Sanderson sisters run into Becca again, Mary can\u2019t remember her name, and she actually gives Becca the same nickname she gave Dani in the original movie.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n\n
