{"id":1216162,"date":"2022-10-04T13:54:33","date_gmt":"2022-10-04T13:54:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/04\/finance-ministry-to-continue-imf-negotiations-in-usa\/"},"modified":"2022-10-04T13:54:33","modified_gmt":"2022-10-04T13:54:33","slug":"finance-ministry-to-continue-imf-negotiations-in-usa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/04\/finance-ministry-to-continue-imf-negotiations-in-usa\/","title":{"rendered":"Finance Ministry to continue IMF negotiations in USA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"453\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Finance-Minister-Ken-Ofori-Atta_800x521-696x453.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta_800x521\"\/><\/div>\n<p>The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has described initial negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout programme as collaborative.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, government is discussing debt restructuring plans with the Fund to improve the country\u2019s credit ratings.<\/p>\n<p>An IMF team arrived in Ghana in the last week of September 2022, to commence official discussions with government for a programme.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the signing of a $1.13 billion cocoa syndicated loan in Accra, Mr Ofori-Atta announced that a government team will meet the IMF in Washington DC, U.S.A in the coming weekend to continue the negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed optimism that government will sign a programme that will help stabilise the economy and improve the country\u2019s Balance of Payment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very confident that the discussions that we are having with the Fund will put us in the right landing zone,\u201d he said, adding that \u201cthe ministry will go to Washington DC at the end of the week to continue with these discussions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Describing earlier engagements as cordial, Mr Ofori-Atta said government is \u201cgetting to a point of understanding the debt sustainability numbers with the IMF.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe this programme will become a historic resolution as demonstration to other countries on the continent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Ofori-Atta reiterated that the ultimate aim of government in the negotiations is to protect Ghanaians from the negative impact of recent global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Russia invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>            <!--  [embed]https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=videoseries[\/embed]<!--\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>--><\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"4wAsMsJCwHY\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Adom TV Live Stream\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4wAsMsJCwHY?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has described initial negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout programme as collaborative.
