{"id":1215755,"date":"2022-10-03T22:43:12","date_gmt":"2022-10-03T22:43:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/03\/gonzalo-higuain-to-retire-at-end-of-inter-miamis-2022-mls-season\/"},"modified":"2022-10-03T22:43:12","modified_gmt":"2022-10-03T22:43:12","slug":"gonzalo-higuain-to-retire-at-end-of-inter-miamis-2022-mls-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/10\/03\/gonzalo-higuain-to-retire-at-end-of-inter-miamis-2022-mls-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Gonzalo Higuain to retire at end of Inter Miami&#8217;s 2022 MLS season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/3464486-70674888-2560-1440-696x392.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"3464486-70674888-2560-1440\"\/><\/div>\n<p>Argentina forward Gonzalo Higuain is to retire at the end of Inter Miami\u2019s 2022 Major League Soccer campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The 34-year-old\u00a0joined Inter Miami in 2020\u00a0and hopes to help them reach the MLS play-offs in his final season.<\/p>\n<p>Higuain has played for Real Madrid, Napoli and Juventus during his career, while also having loan spells at AC Milan and Chelsea.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe day has arrived to say goodbye to football,\u201d said an emotional Higuain during a news conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[It\u2019s} a profession that has given me so much and one I feel privileged to have lived with its good and bad moments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to thank each technical staff that coached me: Club Palermo, River Plate, Real Madrid, Argentina, Napoli, Milan, Chelsea and finally Inter Miami.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll take beautiful moments with me in my head and in my heart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had an unthinkable career and achieved more than I could imagine. It\u2019s a decision I made three or four months ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Higuain scored 31 goals in 75 appearances for Argentina and helped them reach the 2014 World Cup final and the 2015 Copa America final.<\/p>\n<p>His last game for his country was a 2-1 win against Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>On the club front,\u00a0he scored 333 goals and registered 113 assists in 707 appearances across the sides he played for, with 121 of those coming in 264 outings for Real Madrid.<\/p>\n<p>He won three La Liga titles while at Real Madrid, while also winning the Serie A title with Juventus three times.<\/p>\n<p>This season, Higuain has scored 14 goals for Inter Miami, who face Orlando and Montreal in their final two games of the regular MLS campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were a lot of questions about him a few weeks back but we spoke about legacy and how he wants to be remembered,\u201d said Inter Miami manager Phil Neville.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can wave the white flag or show what you are all about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat he has shown since is that he has proven he\u2019s world class and a winner.
