The Punch newspaper reports that a magistrate court sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on Friday, remanded MKO Abiola\u2019s widow, Prof Zainab Duke-Abiola, and her domestic staff, Rebecca Enechido, in prison custody for assaulting police orderly, Inspector Teju Moses, attached to her.<\/p>\n
The report says that the court denied the suspects bail and ordered that they should be remanded in Suleja Prison. The magistrate adjourned the case to October 5, 2022.<\/p>\n
News of the assault emerged yesterday as the media reported that Prof Abiola and two of her domestic workers beat up the policewoman because she refused to do menial domestic duties in the professor\u2019s house. The other domestic staff, a male, is said to be at large.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A police spokesman in a statement on the incident said that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, had ordered a speedy prosecution of the suspects as preliminary investigations had established their culpability. The IGP also ordered the withdrawal of all police personnel attached to her.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Earlier today, the assault victim claimed that Duke-Abiola, a legal practitioner and human rights activist, grievously assaulted her in the of two of her domestic workers on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at her residence in Garki, Abuja, because she refused to wash her (Duke-Abiola\u2019s) car\u2019s foot mat and to open the gate in the rain while in uniform. She also said that the professor had asked her to sign documents while they were in court but she refused because she did not know what the document contained.\u00a0<\/p>\n
