Credit: @flynimaboy \u2014 Twitter<\/p>\n<div id=\"article-text\">\n<p>Grammy-nominated reggae musician Rocky Dawuni has added his voice to Kirani Ayat\u2019s copyright case against the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in an interview on <strong>Hitz FM<\/strong>, he said the <em>Sarki<\/em> rapper had the right to protest because his intellectual property right was infringed upon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has a legitimate complaint,\u201d said Rocky Dawuni.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe thing is that he needed to get somebody\u2019s attention on the whole thing,\u201d he told <strong>Doreen Avio<\/strong> on <strong>Daybreak Hitz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p><div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"CDGlLpyyhFc\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Here&#039;s what Rocky Dawuni had to say about Kirani AYAT&#039;s copyright case against GTA\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CDGlLpyyhFc?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>This comes after Kirani Ayat called out GTA after President Nana Akufo-Addo posted a video on Twitter that contained elements of the rapper\u2019s music video, \u2018GUDA,\u2019 without permission from the artist.<\/p>\n<p>The video the President posted was put together by the tourism authority for the \u201cVisit Ghana\u201d campaign.<\/p>\n<p>In a tweet directed at the President, the artist lamented the tourism authority\u2019s negligence when he [Kirani Ayat] initially approached the outfit for sponsorship, but they went ahead to use his material without permission.<\/p>\n<p>The issue created a back-and-forth between the artist and the tourism authority. Eventually, a \u201cbespoke\u201d agency \u2013 SAMSAL \u2013 who according to GTA, provided Kirani AYAT\u2019s video on behalf of the artist, reacted with a press statement refuting the claim.<\/p>\n<p>Rocky Dawuni went on to advise the Ghana Tourism Authority to settle the issue amicably with the artist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey should sit down and then figure this out \u2013 figure the right way to deal with this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although the exchange of words was not the best way to educate people about copyright, Rocky Dawuni believes the issue serves as a wake-up call to everyone that intellectual property rights, when infringed upon, the right owners deserve to be well compensated.<\/p>\n<p>He went ahead to add that the blame game is unnecessary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey should stop the accusations \u2013 \u2018you should have done this, you should have done that.\u2019 It should be about fairness,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Rocky Dawuni concluded, \u201cWe should protect the copyright of Ghanaian artists \u2014and it starts with both the artists and the government institutions setting the example.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rocky Dawuni is currently on a media tour for the promotion of his new single, <em>Never Bow Down.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/rocky-dawuni-speaks-on-kirani-ayats-copyright-case-against-gta\/\">Source<\/a> <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rocky Dawuni.
