{"id":1214125,"date":"2022-09-30T15:30:25","date_gmt":"2022-09-30T15:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/09\/30\/stop-operations-in-tano-nimiri-forest-reserve-jinapor-orders\/"},"modified":"2022-09-30T15:30:25","modified_gmt":"2022-09-30T15:30:25","slug":"stop-operations-in-tano-nimiri-forest-reserve-jinapor-orders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/09\/30\/stop-operations-in-tano-nimiri-forest-reserve-jinapor-orders\/","title":{"rendered":"Stop operations in Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve \u2013 Jinapor orders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/pit2.jpg\" alt=\"Stop operations in Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve \u2013 Jinapor orders\" class=\"data-control-id-830810 bd-imagestyles-16\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\nStop operations in Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve \u2013 Jinapor orders <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-editable-id=\"article-173450\">\n<h2>The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has directed mining firm, Akonta Mining Limited to stop operations in the Tano Nimiri Forest with immediate effect.<\/h2>\n<p>According to the Ministry, even though Akonta Mining Limited has a mining lease to undertake mining operations in some parts of Samreboi, outside the Forest Reserve, \u201cthe company has no mineral right to undertake any mining operations in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry in a statement issued on Friday, September 30, 2022, said the sector minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has directed the Forestry Ministry to, \u201cforthwith, ensure that the company does not carry out any operation in the Forest and to take the necessary action against any person found culpable in this matter\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur records show that Akonta Mining Ltd, on August 25, 2022, applied for a Mining Lease to undertake mining operations in the said Forest Reserve. By a Ministerial Directive, all reconnaissance, prospecting, and\/or exploratory activities in Forest Reserves in the country are suspended, except in exceptional circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough this directive does not affect mining in Forest Reserves, Akonta Mining Limited\u2019s application has not been determined.
