JIM WATSON\/POOL\/AFP via GI<\/p>\n<div id=\"article-text\">\n<p>Just four months after the verdict was rendered,\u00a0Johnny Depp\u00a0and\u00a0Amber Heard\u2019s\u00a0defamation trial is set to be sensationalized even further with a new movie, and EW has your exclusive first look at the bonkers trailer.<\/p>\n<p>Tubi\u2019s\u00a0<em>Hot Take: The Depp\/Heard Trial<\/em>\u00a0stars Mark Hapka and Megan Davis as the warring exes, with the former sporting Depp\u2019s signature goatee, ponytail, and sunglasses and the latter mimicking Heard\u2019s much-discussed outfits.<\/p>\n<p>The trailer features familiar touchstones from the trial, including Depp\u2019s courtroom nonchalance, the intense scrutiny of Heard on social media, and yes, even a reference to\u00a0James Franco\u00a0\u2014 who was\u00a0included on Heard\u2019s witness list\u00a0but never called to testify.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s day one of the Depp vs. Heard defamation trial; though fans are showing support for both sides, there\u2019s clearly a favourite here,\u201d a reporter says in the trailer, referencing the\u00a0Depp devotees who travelled from far and wide\u00a0to attend the hearings and camp outside the courtroom.<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"-UMFQcCRFu0\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hot Take: The Depp\/Heard Trial | Official Trailer | A Tubi Original\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-UMFQcCRFu0?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><em>Hot Take<\/em>\u00a0also stars Melissa Marty as Depp\u2019s fan-favourite lawyer Camille Vasquez and Mary Carrig as Heard\u2019s attorney Elaine Bredehoft.<\/p>\n<p>The film, out September 30, is executive-produced by Brittany Clemons, Angie Day, Marianne C. Wunch, Hannah Pillemer, and Fernando Szew. Autumn Federici and Kristifor Cvijetic also produced.<\/p>\n<p>Following a six-week trial in June, a seven-person jury\u00a0determined that Heard intentionally and maliciously\u00a0defamed Depp when she wrote a\u00a02018\u00a0<em>Washington Post<\/em>\u00a0op-ed\u00a0identifying herself as a public figure representing domestic abuse.\u00a0Heard\u2019s team filed to appeal the verdict\u00a0in July after a motion for a mistrial was denied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment,\u201d a spokesperson for Heard said.\u00a0\u201cWhile we realize today\u2019s filing will ignite the Twitter bonfires, there are steps we need to take to ensure both fairness and justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"573\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image-242-1024x573.png\" alt=\"First trailer for Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial movie 'Hot Take' Drops\u00a0\" class=\"wp-image-10032179899 lazy\"  data- title=\"First trailer for Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial movie 'Hot Take' Drops\u00a0\"\/><figcaption>Mark Hapka as Johnny Depp in \u2018Hot Take: The Depp\/Heard Trial\u2019| CREDIT: TUBI<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When reached for comment on the appeal, Depp\u2019s spokesperson told EW, \u201cThe jury listened to the extensive evidence presented during the six-week trial and came to a clear and unanimous verdict that the defendant herself defamed Mr. Depp in multiple instances.
