The Africa Movie Awards (AMAA) has officially announced its nominees for the 2022 edition of the awards.<\/p>\n

The award show will be held in Lagos on the October 30, 2022, and aims to recognize and celebrate the visual and storytelling creative industry.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a media event on Wednesday, Anyiam-Osigwe indicated that \u201cAMAA isn\u2019t a popular voting film and movie award ceremony.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is an award ceremony strategically created to reward and celebrate professionalism in film and filmmaking across all spectra\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The nominations for this year were obtained from a total of 362 entries which were shortlisted to 100 films after screening. The organizers also revealed that Nigerian movies dominated the total number of submissions accounting for 47% of the feature films and 50% of the short film submitted this year.<\/p>\n

The migrant-drama \u2018Borga\u2019 is nominated in 14 out of the 26 categories. It leads the pack in a tie with South African feature film \u2018Surviving Gaza\u2019.<\/p>\n

The most nominations a Ghanaian film has had at the awards would be in 2016 with Nana Obri Yeboah\u2019s \u2018The Cursed Ones\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018Borga\u2019 is also in contention for the most sought after and highlight competitive \u2018Award for Best Film\u2019 category.<\/p>\n

Young Ghanaian filmmaker Benedict Yeboah also landed a total of 5 nominations with his feature film debut \u2018The Road to my Father\u2019s Compound\u2019 bringing Ghana\u2019s total to 19 nominations at the AMAA\u2019s this year. The nominations for \u2018The Road to my Father\u2019s Compond\u2019 include \u2018BEST ACHIEVEMENT IN CINEMATOGRAPHY\u2019, \u2018AWARD FOR ACHIEVEMENT IN SCREENPLAY\u2019 as well as \u2018AWARD FOR FIRST FEATURE BY A DIRECTOR\u2019<\/p>\n

The AMAA\u2019s since its inception in 2005 is generally considered to be Africa\u2019s most important film event and the most prestigious film awards in Africa.<\/p>\n

Other top contenders at the AMAA 2022 include \u2018A song from the dark\u2019 and \u2018Angelina\u2019 with six nominations, with six nominations, \u2018Ayaanle,\u2019 and \u2018Almajiri,\u2019 had nominations in five different categories, while \u2018Alaise,\u2019 \u2018Money miss road,\u2019 and \u2018Underbelly earned three different nominations each and \u2018Skin like mine,\u2019 and \u2018Ba Ni,\u2019 had two nominations each.<\/p>\n
