\nA former Ashanti Regional Chairman aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Odeneho Kwaku Appiah has urged Ghanaians to rise up and fight against illegal mining menace in the country.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n \nThe fight against illegal mining, alias Galamsay, is critical to Ghana\u2019s survival as it destroys all the water bodies and forest reserves in the country.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n \nHe also questioned why some influential people in the country are setting unconcerned about the growing Galamsay menace in the country<\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\u201dThe way we are destroying our lands, putting down our cocoa trees and the behavior of some politicians, media, clergy, chiefs and other influential people involved in Galamsay business, l will not be surprised if years to come the country will have to import water<\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\u201dThose above are using the youth of today for their selfish interest and the annoying thing is that those youth who are used by the big people are still poor<\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\u201dWhat are we going to tell our great grandchildren some years to come, when they ask us about why we import water, why we are not the leading cocoa producing country as it was some years back and why can\u2019t we get land to farm on or build?\u201d He said.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n \nMr Appiah has therefore called for a regulation of community-based mining in the country.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\u201dGalamsey is destroying our lands and our country so let\u2019s wake up to say no to Galamsay.\u201d<\/span>\n<\/p>\n \n\u201dWhy can\u2019t we encourage proper community mining which can be regulated and supervised?
