Adansi-Asokwa MP says the booing of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Global Citizen Festival was uncalled for.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Kobina Tahir Hammond said the incident was embarrassing and undemocratic.<\/p>\n
According to him, there are better ways for Ghanaians to express their displeasure toward the President.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He said a bad precedent has been set in the history of the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The legislator insisted that in as much as Ghanaians are faced with severe economic hardship, the situation does not warrant such unfair treatment of the President.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat was scandalous. I don\u2019t think that, as a nation, we\u2019ve gotten to that stage. I was petrified when I heard that.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I didn\u2019t understand it. I haven\u2019t seen anything of this sort before. We shouldn\u2019t be setting precedents that cannot be handled.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Whatever the issue is, people have no business hooting at the President. There should be some respect because that isn\u2019t democratic,\u201d KT Hammond spoke to journalists on the matter on Tuesday, September 27.<\/p>\n
Background<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n President Akufo-Addo who delivered that keynote address at the 2022 Global Citizen Festival was met with loud boos and hoots from spectators.<\/p>\n As the crowd chanted \u201cAway!\u201d the President delivered his speech without a hitch.<\/p>\n However, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has attributed it to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).<\/p>\n According to them, the NDC wanted to use it to score \u201ccheap political points.\u201d<\/p>\n But the NDC has denied it outrightly.\u00a0<\/p>\n According to the party, it did not have any hand in it.\u00a0<\/p>\n The party said the incident reflects the \u201cexcruciating and frustrating times Ghanaians presently find themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n In a press release signed by the Communications Officer of the party, Sammy Gyamfi, NDC said it had no hand in the \u201cembarrassment.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Adansi-Asokwa MP says the booing of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Global Citizen Festival was uncalled for.\u00a0 Kobina Tahir Hammond said the incident was embarrassing and undemocratic.
