{"id":1209976,"date":"2022-09-23T19:54:05","date_gmt":"2022-09-23T19:54:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/09\/23\/arrest-licenced-money-exchangers-in-the-streets-bog-and-police-charged\/"},"modified":"2022-09-23T19:54:05","modified_gmt":"2022-09-23T19:54:05","slug":"arrest-licenced-money-exchangers-in-the-streets-bog-and-police-charged","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/09\/23\/arrest-licenced-money-exchangers-in-the-streets-bog-and-police-charged\/","title":{"rendered":"Arrest Licenced Money Exchangers In the Streets &#8211; BoG and Police Charged |"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayensuano Constituency,\u00a0Samuel Ayeh-Paye, has commended the Bank of Ghana and the Police for swooping down on illegal foreign currency dealers.<\/p>\n<p>Over seventy dealers have been arrested by the security personnel.<\/p>\n<p>In a panel discussion on\u00a0<strong>Peace FM&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>morning show &#8220;Kokrokoo&#8221;, Samuel Ayeh-Paye was excited about the move by the Central Bank to rid the financial sector of the illegal money changers, stressing the move will help in the fortification of Ghana&#8217;s currency.<\/p>\n<p>The illegal money changers, popularly called &#8216;black market&#8217;, is said to be crippling the cedi as their activities contribute to the dollar (US Dollar) appreciating against the cedi.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to host Nana Yaw Kesseh, Mr. Ayeh-Paye charged the BoG and the Police to also clamp down on licenced money dealers engaging in illegal activities.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;They should also focus on those who have licence but have hidden it and are in the streets exchanging the foreign currencies. That&#8217;s also illegal . . .
