Queen Elizabeth \u201cdied in her favourite place and was laid to rest in her favourite place\u201d.<\/p>\n
Britain\u2019s longest-serving monarch passed away at her Balmoral estate in Scotland on September 8, aged 96, and Samantha Cohen \u2013 the queen\u2019s former assistant private secretary \u2013 has explained that the monarch was also buried in one of her favourite places.<\/p>\n
Cohen \u2013 who attended the committal service in Windsor on Monday \u2013 told PEOPLE: \u201cShe died in her favourite place and was laid to rest in her favourite place alongside her husband and other members of her family.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cohen found the service to be a very moving experience.<\/p>\n
She shared: \u201cIt was very intimate as all the Queen\u2019s personal staff and her households were there. It signalled the transition to the king as we ended with \u2018God Save the King\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a lot of camaraderie \u2013 it was like a big reunion for all those who\u2019d worked for her for years but had left. <\/p>\n
\u201cShe was bringing together those who\u2019d worked for her for years like her private secretaries and other staff and she was bringing them all together these last days.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe included everyone who\u2019d worked with her. The monarch was buried in The King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle.<\/p>\n
The private service was held on Monday evening, with the queen being laid to rest with her husband Prince Philip, who died in April 2021, aged 99.<\/p>\n
A statement on the royal family\u2019s website read: \u201cThe Queen was buried together with the Duke of Edinburgh, at The King George VI Memorial Chapel.\u201d<\/p>\n
