{"id":1204136,"date":"2022-09-14T11:44:19","date_gmt":"2022-09-14T11:44:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/09\/14\/govt-sells-t-bills-at-31\/"},"modified":"2022-09-14T11:44:19","modified_gmt":"2022-09-14T11:44:19","slug":"govt-sells-t-bills-at-31","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/09\/14\/govt-sells-t-bills-at-31\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt Sells T-Bills At 31%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The interest rate on the government\u2019s short-term Treasury market increased to 31 per cent on September 10, 2022, as investors continue to show interest in the short-term securities.<\/p>\n<p>Though the government exceeded its target for the 13th week running, the cost of repaying these loans is expected to be high.<\/p>\n<p>Since inflation begun rising about five months ago, interest rates have been escalating consistently to compensate investors.<\/p>\n<p>This has boosted investor interest in Treasury bills.<\/p>\n<p>However, the rising interest payments are a matter of concern to many economists, analysts and market watchers.<\/p>\n<p>According to the auction results by the Bank of Ghana (BoG), the 91-day Treasury bill went for 29.48 per cent, compared to 29.04 per cent the previous week, whilst the 182-Day T-bill traded at 31.05 per cent, as against 30.22 per cent the earlier week.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the T-bills sale was oversubscribed by 35 per cent to the tune of \u00a22.287 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Though the investors still showed more interest in the 3-months bill that of the 6 months bill also witnessed significant interest this time around.<\/p>\n<p>Also, \u00a2860.92 million worth of the bids came from the 182-day bill but \u00a2815.70 million was accepted.<\/p>\n<p>For the 91-day bill, \u00a21.427 billion of the bids were tendered in, but \u00a21.410 billion were accepted.<\/p>\n<p>The target for this auction was \u00a21.682 billion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Business Desk Report<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- AI CONTENT END 2 -->\n\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta The interest rate on the government\u2019s short-term Treasury market increased to 31 per cent on September 10, 2022, as investors continue to show interest in the short-term securities.
