The former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has described recent allegations raised against him by the Bono New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Kwame Baffoe Abronye as \u201crubbish\u201d and \u201cabsolute lies\u201d.<\/p>\n
Abronye alleged in a press statement that the state has spent \u20b515, 612,319.00 on Mahama since he left office in 2017 plus a gratuity of GHC40 million he received in 2013. According to him, the GHC15 million included the costs of accommodation, bills, rented office, domestic staff, fuel and travels of the former president.<\/p>\n
But in an interview with TV3\u2019s Alfred Ocansey, the former president denied the allegations.<\/p>\n
Addressing the issue with GHc40 million ex-gratia, he said, \u201cthat\u2019s an absolute lie\u201d.<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cthe only payment that was made to me by government was my salary arrears of GHC230,000 that\u2019s all\u2026.in 2013. No ex-gratia. The GHC230,000 was salary arrears in 2013\u201d.<\/p>\n
He indicated that his bank statement does not have any 40 million payment from the State.<\/p>\n
Touching on the allegation of GHC15.6 million, Mahama said, \u201call those things he said are rubbish\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI received only my pension payment like President Kufour, {and} President Rawlings was receiving until he died. That\u2019s all. I pay the electricity bill for my house and office; I pay the water bill for my house and office; I live in my own accommodation so the State does not pay me anything for accommodation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey haven\u2019t given me an office. I rent an office at East Cantonment and I pay the rent myself. I pay {for} my own fuel; I pay my own domestic staff; I pay my own medical bills; {and} I pay my own air tickets when I travel.<\/p>\n
He believes that the NPP regional chairman made those allegations based on documented entitlements approved by Parliaments which haven\u2019t been implemented.<\/p>\n
\u201cSomeone gave him what we are entitled to and probably they are doing it for President Kufour but they are not doing it for me\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
