Accord party presidential candidate, Professor Christopher Imumolen has once again distributed scholarships worth hundreds of millions of naira to more than 2,000 students in Kabba, Kogi State, on Saturday.<\/p>\n
This was in keeping with his vowed commitment to constantly empower and reach out to the less fortunate in society so they can realize their innate potential.<\/p>\n
The presidential hopeful made time out of his hectic schedule to visit one of the programs close to his heart: giving scholarships to students who are financially challenged in order to support their academic aspirations.<\/p>\n
The students were given scholarships worth $2 million each at the Institute of Science and Management, run by the Joint Professional and Support International Limited (JPTS), a school he founded three years ago and served as the event\u2019s location. The setting had a carnival-like feel to it.<\/p>\n
Some of the fortunate students spoke after receiving their awards, expressing their gratitude for the honor and promising to take full use of the chance.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really overwhelmed. I wasn\u2019t expecting this, and I really thank God for this opportunity,\u201d one of the beneficiaries said.<\/p>\n
Imumolen later told an NTA crew that the response his scholarship program received in Kabba had inspired him and that he would do his best to help more Nigerians as soon as the chance arose.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am delighted to be able to start this scholarship programme that has helped in no small way in advancing the academic aspirations of a lot of Nigerians since its inception,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will continue to empower them any which way we can\u2014 with business ideas, skill acquisition and in general entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am encouraged by the reception this initiative has gotten here in Kabba, and we\u2019ll continue to engage more Nigerians to make sure they also get these opportunities,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
And while receiving the professor during a courtesy call earlier in his palace, the Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, was full of praise for the Accord party presidential candidate, saying he loved the fact that he was investing in human capital through the scholarships he gave to indigent students of the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat you have done, son, gladdens my heart,\u201d he told Imumolen in his palace.<\/p>\n
