{"id":1200470,"date":"2022-09-07T16:31:47","date_gmt":"2022-09-07T16:31:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/09\/07\/suspension-of-5-telecom-tax-will-affect-2023-budget\/"},"modified":"2022-09-07T16:31:47","modified_gmt":"2022-09-07T16:31:47","slug":"suspension-of-5-telecom-tax-will-affect-2023-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/09\/07\/suspension-of-5-telecom-tax-will-affect-2023-budget\/","title":{"rendered":"Suspension Of 5% Telecom Tax Will Affect 2023 Budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_832991\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-832991\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-832991\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Akabueze<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Director-General of the budget office of the federation, Ben Akabueze has stated that the suspension of the five percent excise duty on telecommunication services will affect the 2023 budget.<\/p>\n<p>Akabueze stated this on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television, in reaction to the suspension of the planned 5% telecoms tax as announced by Isa Pantami, minister of communications and digital economy.<\/p>\n<p>Akabueze expressed that it would harm the government\u2019s financial projections for next year\u2019s budget.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also Read:\u00a0Proposed Telecom Tax Suspended \u2013 Isa Pantami<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He also said the federal government may need to rework its recent medium-term expenditure framework (MTEF) due to the development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we are formally advised that this is no longer applicable, then we will have to rework that Medium Term Expenditure Framework.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat that means is that the projected revenues will decline and the deficit will increase, which means that we either have to cut back on expenditure or increase debt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe MTEF proposal has a total of N19.76 trillion, with a proposed deficit of N12.42 trillion.
