{"id":1199829,"date":"2022-09-06T16:25:45","date_gmt":"2022-09-06T16:25:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/09\/06\/why-comprehensive-voters-list-for-2023-polls-is-yet-to-be-published\/"},"modified":"2022-09-06T16:25:45","modified_gmt":"2022-09-06T16:25:45","slug":"why-comprehensive-voters-list-for-2023-polls-is-yet-to-be-published","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/09\/06\/why-comprehensive-voters-list-for-2023-polls-is-yet-to-be-published\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Comprehensive Voters\u2019 List For 2023 Polls Is Yet To Be Published"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_836080\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-836080\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-836080\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that it is working towards publishing a comprehensive list of registered voters in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, said this on Monday at a stakeholders\u2019 validation meeting for the 2022 revised framework and regulations for voting by internally displaced persons (IDPs), held in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The commission had, in August, published a preliminary register of voters in its LGA offices.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Tuesday, Yakubu stated that the commission had been accused of not being willing to display the comprehensive voters\u2019 register as provided by section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis claim is incorrect. What the commission displayed for claims and objections in our local government area offices nationwide for a period of one week, from August 15 to August 21, was not the entire register of voters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also Read:\u00a0INEC: Elections Are Challenging Because Politicians Pursue Them Like War<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was the list of fresh registrants at the end of the fourth and last quarter of the continuous voter registration exercise, covering the period from April 11 to July 31.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has been the practice for several years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wish to assure Nigerians that the commission will display the comprehensive register in all the 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas\/area councils nationwide as envisaged in section 19(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will integrate fresh voters registered under the last CVR to the existing register of over 84 million voters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe date will be announced as soon as the commission completes the ongoing automated biometric identification system (ABIS) to weed out all double\/multiple as well as ineligible registrants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe appeal to some of our friends in civil society organisations to be guided accordingly,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/inec-why-comprehensive-voters-list-for-2023-polls-is-yet-to-be-published\/amp<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that it is working towards publishing a comprehensive list of registered voters in Nigeria.
