His Excellency,\u00a0The farmers in Ziope in the Volta Region have produced enough tomatoes this year and are crying out loud, looking for buyers.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This is very sad. But may I ask whether the area has a Member of Parliament (MP) who represents them in the law-making house?\u00a0<\/p>\n
My simple question is, Is it to the notice of the MP that, over the years the main preoccupation of the people in this enclave has been tomato production? And what has he\u00a0been doing to help halt post-harvest losses of these farm produce?\u00a0<\/p>\n
The One-District-One-Factory (1D1F) concept is one of the most brilliant economic initiatives which has ever emerged in the recent political history of Ghana.<\/p>\n
It is an individually owned and not government-owned project. It is a policy that will help change the economic fortunes of Ghana and also provide huge benefits to the country as outlined below.<\/p>\n
1\u2022 See how tomatoes are produced in large quantities in places like the Volta Region but have no buyers. Post-harvest loss is obvious to occur, as usual, hence affecting the investments made by the farmers. So the policy is of immense importance.\u00a0<\/p>\n
2\u2022 It would have assisted in contributing greatly to halting or reducing significantly the importation of a lot of items and products from other countries.<\/p>\n
3\u2022 It would save our currency from struggling against national currencies, especially the US Dollar.\u00a0This is how all the advanced countries started. Industrial revolution; I mean.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, as a nation, we could not maintain all the factories,\u00a0 the TOMATO FACTORY built by the first President of the Republic of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.<\/p>\n
Over 99% of them have either collapsed or better said sold to some close associates of certain politicians who could not have those factories survive.<\/p>\n
However, instead of embracing the concept of the 1D1F; sadly, it has been overly politicized especially, by opposition Members of Parliament. <\/p>\n
They intend not to encourage business-minded people from their various constituencies to participate in the 1D1F initiative and the process lends credence to the success of the NPP government.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr. President, I will plead with you to call on them to put politics aside and join the 1D1F train for the benefit of their constituents.\u00a0<\/p>\n
