\nFormer Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to hold true to the tradition of the party which is based on meritocracy as that is the only thing that can help them retain power beyond 2024.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nSpeaking at the launch of a book written in honour of the late Baffour Osei Akoto, Prof Ocquaye cautioned the NPP against “Monecracy”, a situation where monetary gains becomes the main factor to awarding positions in the party.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“We would want to resolve that we will follow not after monecracy, but we will follow the principles and tenets of the tradition. The tradition of truth, fearlessness, critique, working hard by principle and by valour”<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“If we do that, Ghanaians would repeatedly come and knock at our door in order to invite our government to take over the reins of governance in this country”, he said at the launch last Wednesday.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nProf Ocquaye further urged the rank and file of the NPP to learn from the life and principles of the man the book was authored to celebrate.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“If we [NPP] do otherwise, we will not be honouring those men of valour like Akoto, Danquah, Busia, Dombo and others”, he said.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe Book, titled “Baffour Osei Akoto: A Royal Patriot and the making of Ghana” is a compilation of speeches and articles by famous speakers about the works of the late Baffour Osei Akoto.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
