{"id":1196268,"date":"2022-09-01T10:36:30","date_gmt":"2022-09-01T10:36:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/09\/01\/customs-staff-association-accuses-gra-of-intimidation-after-querying-executive-who-appeared-on-joynews\/"},"modified":"2022-09-01T10:36:30","modified_gmt":"2022-09-01T10:36:30","slug":"customs-staff-association-accuses-gra-of-intimidation-after-querying-executive-who-appeared-on-joynews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/09\/01\/customs-staff-association-accuses-gra-of-intimidation-after-querying-executive-who-appeared-on-joynews\/","title":{"rendered":"Customs Staff Association accuses GRA of intimidation after querying executive who appeared on JoyNews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"article-text\" style=\"line-height: 2; letter-spacing: -0.5px;font-size: 18px;\">\n<p>                        <!--p class=\"ky_saved_articles_link\"><span class=\"ky_saved_articles_hide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\" class=\"ky_saved_articles_img\" alt=\"Customs Staff Association accuses GRA of intimidation after querying executive who appeared on JoyNews\" title=\"Customs Staff Association accuses GRA of intimidation after querying executive who appeared on JoyNews\"><\/span> Bookmark<\/p-->\n<p>The Customs Staff Association (CSA) has accused the management of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) of subtly bullying its members following the Special Prosecutor\u2019s recent report.<\/p>\n<p>These moves, Association says include intimidation of their National Secretary, Gift Emmanuel Kofi Tsamah, after he appeared on JoyNews to provide education on the Custom Division\u2019s activities at the ports.<\/p>\n<p>The officer participated in <strong>The Probe<\/strong>\u00a0to discuss mechanisms to improve the revenue collection at the Tema port in the wake of the Special Prosecutor\u2019s damning findings into Labianca \u2019s dealings with the Customs Division of GRA.<\/p>\n<p>On August 17, Mr Tsamah had cause to respond to the query issued to him by GRA management saying he obtained lawful authority before participating in the discussion on \u2018The Probe\u2019 on Sunday, August 14.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"554\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Customs-Officer-1024x554.jpg\" alt=\"Customs Staff Association accuses GRA of intimidation after querying executive who appeared on JoyNews\" class=\"wp-image-10032153883\"   title=\"Customs Staff Association accuses GRA of intimidation after querying executive who appeared on JoyNews\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt is my humble and respectful submission that the said press engagement by my good self was carried out pursuant to lawful authority,\u201d the officer added.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest statement, the Customs Staff Association condemned the tactics meted to its leadership describing the query as \u201cvery frivolous and vexatious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1fx6jkHzY8KVqk4AJdWsX6a3TUWNnE3wE\/preview\" allow=\"autoplay\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne wonders what crime is committed when the CSA engages the public to provide the needed tax education to bring clarity to matters of public concern and bring better understanding to our tax laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a letter written to the GRA\u2019s Commissioner General, the CSA questioned whether \u201csections of Top Management stand to benefit from the distortions, misconceptions and misapplications of Customs laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Association also highlighted a supposed query sent to another official, Francis Wulf-Ashun of<br \/>the KIA Collection.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, Mr Wuf-Ashun is also being questioned for supposedly \u201cgranting a media interview during a CSA organised meeting with Officers of the Collection, which meeting had in attendance, the Commissioner of Customs Division over threats of a sit-down strike due to the poor management of promotions within the Authority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>                <!-- Post Tags --><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Customs Staff Association (CSA) has accused the management of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) of subtly bullying its members following the Special Prosecutor\u2019s recent report.
