Bernard Mornah of the PNC, Davis Ansah Opoku, MP for Mpraeso and Murtala Mohammed, MP for Tamale Central joined Johnnie to discuss the Oyerepa FM/Odike impasse with the Kumasi traditional Council. The Traditional Council yesterday forgave the FM station but there are still unresolved matters regarding Odike. The 2012 presidential candidate remains banished from Kumasi.

According to Murtala Mohammed, there are many people in power who are engaged in galamsey and yet the government insists that it is fighting galamsey. This infuriated Davis Ansah who noted that he gets appalled when he hears of high ranking officials involved in galamsey. He mentioned that anyone who tries that in his constituency in Mpraeso will feel the full wrath of the people.

Murtala Mohammed wasn’t convinced and boldly told the Mpraeso MP to look into the camera and tell Ghanaians whether he is involved in galamsey or not. This got Davis fumbling and asking if the question regards galamsey in his constituency or other areas. Murtala maintained that it was a general statement. After some hesitation Davis Ansah insisted that he is in no way involved in galamsey and was ready to take action against anyone who does galamsey in his constituency without appropriate license.

Isn’t it interesting that appointees of government insist that they are not involved in galamsey and yet that illegal business keeps thriving. How then does the galamsey equipment enter into the country and how does it get to the mining sites? Otumfuo himself had in a speech months ago noted that some of those gathered had dealings or knew people involved in galamsey.

The Akufo-Addo government claims it has spent so much to curb the galamsey and yet despite all these raids, the business keeps thriving. Who is then to be blamed for this illegality since all the MPs in the Ashanti Region brag that they are not involved in galamsey. Who then are those involved?

Use the link below to watch the video.
