That was fine.<\/p>\n<p>What was not fine were the hateful symbols on display at the party. Questionable style, but style nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p>The family took photos with cowboy hats. There was a general country motif going on, even with the live music.<\/p>\n<p>But not everyone\u2019s outfit was on-theme, so to speak.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1006\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_ig_01-1024x1006.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456764\"\/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1006\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456764 lazyload\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_ig_01.png\" data-trellis-processed=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>We probably don\u2019t have to zoom in for you to notice the shirt on display in this photo (and in others).<\/p>\n<p>That man, apparently standing with Sydney\u2019s mother and grandmother, is wearing a \u201cBlue Lives Matter\u201d shirt.<\/p>\n<p>The deeply fashy pro-police symbol has become so synonymous with white supremacy that officers have been using it to replace Confederate flag tattoos.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"713\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_reply_tweets_05.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456771\"\/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"713\" height=\"675\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456771 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_reply_tweets_05.png\" data-trellis-processed=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>To be clear, we do not know who this man is. <\/p>\n<p>But, as we will address shortly, the MAGA-inspired hats were apparently part of the party.<\/p>\n<p>We never thought that we\u2019d say this in any context, but we <em>prefer <\/em>the goofy cowboy hats.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/GettyImages-1395056959-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-453977\"\/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-453977 lazyload\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/GettyImages-1395056959-scaled.jpg\" data-trellis-processed=\"1\"\/><figcaption>NEW YORK, NEW YORK \u2013 MAY 02: Sydney Sweeney attends The 2022 Met Gala Celebrating \u201cIn America: An Anthology of Fashion\u201d at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 02, 2022 in New York City. Note that she\u2019s not directly denying anything.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuch love to everyone,\u201d she expressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd,\u201d Sydney\u2019s tweet concluded, \u201cHappy Birthday Mom!\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"892\" height=\"391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_tweet_01.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456765\"\/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"892\" height=\"391\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456765 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_tweet_01.png\" data-trellis-processed=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>If Sydney is lamenting that people are \u201cassuming\u201d that this man is a relative, that is fair.<\/p>\n<p>As we said, he is unidentified.<\/p>\n<p>But the views announced by his bastardized American flag shirt are not really up for debate. It\u2019s a symbol of white supremacy, and even police departments have banned it.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"712\" height=\"756\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_reply_tweets_04.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456772\"\/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"712\" height=\"756\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456772 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_reply_tweets_04.png\" data-trellis-processed=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>So even if this guy is just a venue owner or a party crasher who had the right hat \u2026 that\u2019s not okay.<\/p>\n<p>First of all, because he was clearly welcome in this photo.<\/p>\n<p>Second of all, because Sydney shared the pic. She could have so easily shared almost <em>any <\/em>other photo.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"712\" height=\"881\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_reply_tweets_07.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456770\"\/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"712\" height=\"881\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456770 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_reply_tweets_07.png\" data-trellis-processed=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>That brings us to the third item, which is photos that her brother shared.<\/p>\n<p>Trent Sweeney shared photos of family members wearing MAGA-inspired \u201cMake 60 Great Again\u201d hats.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not just a joke in poor taste, either. Trent has shared photos of the <em>original <\/em>hat before, from other occasions.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"713\" height=\"782\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_reply_tweets_03.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456773\"\/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"713\" height=\"782\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456773 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_reply_tweets_03.png\" data-trellis-processed=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>One could easily ask why some people are defending her.<\/p>\n<p>Sydney isn\u2019t disavowing her family or even their views. (Photo by Amy Sussman\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But Sydney being a talented actress \u2014 and, you know, a total knockout \u2014 does not free her from scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>Even if the shirt and the hats were totally insincere, there are very few contexts where hate symbols are appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>Birthday parties are not among them. We get that.<\/p>\n<p>What we do not understand is advertising symbols of malice and white supremacy at a birthday party \u2026 and then getting mad when people talk about it.<\/p>\n<p>These aren\u2019t old pics that people maliciously unearthed. They\u2019re from this month.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"713\" height=\"865\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_reply_tweets_02.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456775\"\/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"713\" height=\"865\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456775 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_reply_tweets_02.png\" data-trellis-processed=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>So yes, of course Sydney received a thorough callout.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, some are beginning to despair about the cast of <em>Euphoria<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>There has simply been a string of bad news in recent weeks. Viewers are not loving it.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"713\" height=\"874\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_reply_tweets_06.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456774\"\/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"713\" height=\"874\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-456774 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/0829_sydneysweeney_reply_tweets_06.png\" data-trellis-processed=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Hunter Schafer expressed (or, rather, endorsed) some pretty vile <em>transmed <\/em>views \u2014 essentially some more-transgender-than-thou intracommunity toxicity among trans people.<\/p>\n<p>Now, all jokes at her expense aside, Sydney has left some viewers feeling pretty disappointed.<\/p>\n<p>She could have condemned racist symbols. She could have hidden the photos. Instead, she just wants people to turn a blind eye, as she apparently does.
